The Drexel women's lacrosse team opened up Colonial Athletic Association play on Friday night against Towson, the tenth-ranked team in the nation in the latest IWLCA poll. That ranking showed up on the scoreboard, as the Dragons fell to Towson, 20-5. The Tigers scored six straight to end the first half and take control of the game, never looking back from there. Colleen Grady scored two second-half goals for the Dragons, who fell to 3-8 and 0-1 in CAA action. She also won four draw controls, as Drexel outdid the Tigers 15-11 in that category. Courtney Dietzel led the way with six draw victories. Lucy Schneidereith had a goal and an assist for Drexel. Karson Harris had three caused turnovers on the defensive end. Cassidy Delaney and Alex Beilman added goals, while Maggie Stetson had an assist and two draws. Carly Tellekamp had four goals to lead the Tigers. Natalie Sulmonte scored three with an assist. Towson jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the first half, with Delaney's goal at the 27:32 mark standing as the Dragons' lone score. That changed with 14:58 to play when Lucy Schneidereith scored her 20th of the season. Beilman followed just over a minute later, trimming the Tigers' lead to 6-3. After winning a draw, the Dragons had a chance to cut even further into the Towson edge, but could not get it done. Four minutes after Beilman's goal, Tellekamp found the back of the net to open the Tigers' 6-0 half-ending run. Grady opened the second half with her first goal of the evening just 1:12 into the period. Her next goal, the only other score of the second half for the Dragons, came with 17:00 exactly to play but by then, the Tigers had rattled off four more goals to make it a 16-4 game. They would tack on four more following Grady's score to provide the final margin. Things won't get easier for the Dragons quickly, as they hit the road for their next game on Sunday afternoon. That one will be at the No. 4 James Madison Dukes, with the game scheduled to get underway at noon.
