HARRISONBURG, Va. – Three players recorded at least four points and a pair of first-half runs set the tone in seventh-ranked James Madison's 16-10 victory against Temple on Saturday afternoon at Sentara Park. The Dukes captured their seventh straight win, improving to 7-1 on the year and 4-0 at home, while the Owls fell to 3-6. "We really went after our team this week and tried to push them along, holding them accountable with some of the things we've been seeing and I think they really responded, Head Coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe said. "Our energy was great and a lot of individuals stepped up for the team. I thought Logan looked really smooth out there, coming off the injury, and all our midfielders did a great job of causing havoc." Making her return after missing the previous two games, junior attacker Logan Brennan matched her career high with six points off three goals and a career-best three assists. Junior midfielder Halle Duenkel turned in her third hat trick in four outings with three goals and an assist, while freshman midfielder Lizzy Fox was all over the stat sheet with two goals, three assists, five caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls – all of which were career highs. Senior attacker Hanna Haven scored twice with an assist, and sophomore midfielder Charlotte Haggerty scored two goals with three ground balls, as nine players in all scored at least one goal in the win. Junior midfielder Kelsey Reed had career highs of three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while senior defender Natalie Fuccillo and junior defender Kristen Russell each caused a pair of turnovers. "It's a fiery team and our middies are our workhorses this season," Klaes-Bawcombe said. "You see people like Kelsey and Lizzy doing a great job of getting their sticks on the opposing player sticks and cleaning up the trash with the ground balls. I'm really impressed with the total team play again today with stats spread out all over." JMU opened the game with four straight goals in the first 11 minutes, but the Owls responded with three straight to trim JMU's lead to one. Out of the timeout, JMU closed the first half with six in a row to snag a 10-3 halftime advantage. The Dukes kept Temple off the scoreboard for over 24 minutes between the first and second halves before the Owls ended the drought with 22:40 to go. JMU led by as many as nine twice down the stretch.INSIDE THE BOX SCORE JMU out-shot Temple 35-25, including a 26-20 ledger in shots on goal. The Dukes used a 10-4 margin on the draw in the second half to beat TU 18-10 in the circle. JMU tallied a season-high 18 caused turnovers, besting its previous high of 17 against High Point. All but four of Temple's giveaways were forced by JMU, leading to the Owls failing to clear six of their 28 attempts. Temple held a 30-27 edge in ground balls, marking the first time this season JMU won a game while collecting less ground balls. Redshirt sophomore Molly Dougherty made 10 saves between the pipes, which is her third outing with double-digit saves in 2019. Temple was paced by Bridget Whitaker, who had two goals and an assist. Meghan Hoffman and Gabby Acker each scored twice, and Kara Nakrasius had a game-high seven ground balls. HAVE A DAY, LIZZY FOX Making just her second career start in the midfield, Lizzy Fox turned in a career day in every possible category. Fox recorded a career-high five points off two goals (tie CH) and a career-best three assists. She scored her two goals on just three shots. The freshman also paced the Dukes in the hustle areas, producing career highs of five caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls. Her caused turnover total was also a season high by any JMU player this year.
