Despite tying UConn goal for goal over the final 42 minutes, the damage was done as the Huskies (6-7, 2-3) raced out to a 9-0 lead and beat the Owls (7-6, 2-3) by a score of 16-7 at Howarth Field. Keys to the Game > An early opponent run has been Temple's downfall in its three-game losing streak. UConn scores three times in the first three minutes and took its 9-0 lead at 13:07 of the first half. > UConn put 28 shots on goal to Temple's 11, and committed five fewer turnovers. > Kelsey Catalano was unstoppable for the Huskies, scoring eight goals including six in the first half. Individual Highlights > Junior Amber Lambeth got a hat trick for the Owls, the sixth of her career, leading Temple with three goals. > Senior Kira Gensler, sophomores Maddie Gebert and Olivia Thompson and freshman Bridget Whitaker all scored one goal apiece for the Owls. > Gebert, Gensler and sophomore Meghan Hoffman each tallied one assist. > Playing seven minutes of the first half and all of the second half, sophomore goalkeeper Maryn Lowell made 10 saves for the Owls, recording her sixth double-figure saves performance of the season. > Sophomore Kara Nakrasius led Temple with six draw controls, giving her a team-best 48 for the season which ranks ninth all-time in a single season in program history. > UConn's Grace Nolan came into the game with a conference-best 45 goals, but was marked by Temple senior defender Nicole Latgis who held her to just two for the day. Latgis also tallied three ground balls and a caused turnover. Game Summary > Gebert was the first to get Temple on the board with 11:48 remaining in the first half. > Over the final 12 minutes of the period the Owls got three goals to UConn's two, but trailed 11-3 at the break. > UConn scored four of the first five second-half goals, but Temple finished strong with three of the last four over the final 15:28. Quotable > "First and foremost I would say it's an offensive issue that we're having. It takes us too many possessions to score goals, which requires our defense to make a lot of stops. In each of our games recently, our defense has given up the thing defensively that we've been prepared to stop at the beginning of games. So it's taking our defense too many possessions to understand what they're playing against, and it's taking our offense too many possessions to figure out how to score, and the combination is leading to games opening up too fast on us. Not to mention the draw control is then putting us behind early in games as well. We're getting hit on three fronts right now, and I think our defense is learning faster than our offense in-game, so we're still not scoring enough goals." - Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen Up Next > Temple will travel to Butler for a noon game on Saturday, April 14.
