No. 23/RV women's lacrosse managed to score the first goal of the inaugural meeting between the two nationally-prominent squads, but No. 1/1 Stony Brook went on three large scoring runs throughout to charge to a 19-4 decision at LaValle Stadium on Tuesday night. The Seawolves' No. 2-ranked offense went to work with a pair of five-goal runs in the first and then a nine-score streak that lasted from 6:12 in the first half through the first 17:28 of the second. The nation's top defensive unit also looked to be in top shape, keeping Cornell well below its season scoring average of 10.50 goals per game. Stony Brook had four players score three or more times with Ally Kennedy and Courtney Murphy leading the way with five goals each. Kylie Ohlmiller added in four as well and Taryn Ohlmiller registered a hat trick. It was senior captain Ida Farinholt who became the first player to get on the board, striking 4:25 into the contest off of a feed from Caroline Allen. Joey Coffy notched the next goal for the team from the free position spot nine minutes later to keep the Big Red into the game, 5-2, after the opposition went on its first run of the evening. Allen would go on to notch another point on the day after assisting Tomasina Leska's goal with 7:16 left in the first half and Leska herself would get another tally, converting from the eight-meter spot with 2:30 left in regulation. The junior attacker is the lone athlete on the team to score in all 10 matchups this season, scoring at least twice in eight of them. Coffy was the top draw controller on the field, securing seven draws while also picking up one ground ball. Senior captain Taylor Reed scooped up two ground balls and Farinholt, Allen and Hilary Lemonick each caused one turnover. The scoresheet reflected the lopsided score, with the Seawolves coming out on top in shots (28-13), ground balls (19-10) and draw controls (14-11). Both teams were clean on clears with the home team going 18-18 while the Big Red went 10-10. The game was a bit unusual in that there were only two saves made the entire game, with both being made by Stony Brook's Jessica Goralski in relief. Goralski recorded the opening save with under 18 minutes to play in the second half. The team heads back into Ivy League play this weekend, traveling to Brown for a 1 p.m. start time this Saturday. The game will be simulcast on ESPN3 and the Ivy League Network.
