– Lillie Hunt netted a wraparound goal to propel the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to a 16-15 overtime victory over Lafayette at Graham Field on Wednesday night. Hunt's bounce shot found the back of the net with 25.7 seconds remaining in the first three-minute overtime session. It capped a furious comeback that saw the Bison score five of the game's final six goals to overcome a late three-strike deficit. Trailing 14-11 with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Bucknell (4-7, 2-1 Patriot League) used a 4-0 run to build a 15-14 advantage. Tegan Warren completed her hat trick to kick off the run at the 8:42 mark, just over a minute after the Leopards (4-6, 0-3 Patriot League) pulled ahead by three. After Kali Peeples finished off a hat trick of her own with 6:41 left on the clock, Morgan Steinhacker struck at the 5:18 and 3:26 marks to put the Bison back on top. Steinhacker's go-ahead goal came off a rising feed from Peeples. Lafayette's Anna Stein sent the game into overtime by finding the back of the net with 44 seconds left to play. Jane Kirby, who tied Emma Novick for the Leopard lead with a hat trick, drew a free position with 29 seconds remaining; her false start denied the Leopards one last dangerous opportunity in regulation. Peeples (3g-1a), Eve Calabria (4a), Steinhacker (3g), Warren (3g) and Hunt (2g-1a) all reached the three-point threshold for Bucknell, which earned its second overtime victory in three games. Jamisen DeWitt was strong in net, making 10 saves; over the course of the contest, she turned aside five free-position bids. For Lafayette, Quinn Lacy stopped 17 shots and scooped up three ground balls. Novick (3g-1a), Bella Alampi (3g), Kirby (3g) and Stein (2g-1a) posted at least three points while Caroline Curnal doubled up the second-place players with a game-best four caused turnovers. It was a game marked by momentum swings and lengthy scoring runs. After the Bison scored four unanswered goals to open the game, the Leopards responded with three of their own to cut their deficit to one by the first half's 13:22 mark. Bucknell ultimately outscored Lafayette, 3-2, the rest of the way to carry a 7-5 advantage into the intermission. The teams traded goals in the second half's first three minutes to make it an 8-6 game in the Bison's favor. The Leopards regrouped, finding the back of the net twice in less than 30 seconds to even the score at the 22:15 mark. After Sarah Dohler struck twice in 41 seconds, first off a free-position attempt and then off a Julia Bradbury feed, to give Bucknell a 10-8 advantage, Lafayette strung together a 6-1 run that stretched from the 19:20 to the 9:56 marks to build a 14-11 advantage. The Bison led in shots (39-29) and shots on goal (33-25) while the Leopards held advantages in ground balls (20-17), draw controls (18-15) and free-position attempts (13-7). Despite drawing six fewer free position bids, Bucknell only netted one less free-position goal than Lafayette, at five to six. Entering the game, the Bison trailed the Leopards in the all-time series, 34-6, and had dropped their previous two meetings. Bucknell, winner of three of its past four games, returns to action on Saturday, March 30 by traveling to Colgate for a 1 p.m. game
