ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team (13-3, 7-1 Patriot League) scored 13 goals in a row to close out the first half to take control and never look back, posting a 21-5 victory over Lafayette (5-11, 1-7 Patriot League) on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. "I am very blessed and privileged to have such a great senior class," head coach Cindy Timchal said after the game. "It was great to be able to get them such a big win today. Although the score doesn't reflect it, I think Lafayette has a lot of talent. We respect every one that we play when we step out onto the field at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. It went back and forth early, but we were able to find some seems and get hot in the first half and didn't look back. It was a wonderful day for our seniors. As a coach, a victory for the team and I am happy for them." Offensively, the Midshipmen tallied 21 goals on 41 shots, including 35 shots on goal. Nine different players registered goals in the game, led by a career day for junior Caitlin Blanche (Crofton, Md.) who finished with a career-high eight points on a career-best seven goals. She was joined by Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) with hat tricks on the day. Larkin and O'Sullivan both tallied four points with three goals apiece and one helper each. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) and Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) also added two goals apiece. Victory paced the team with four assists to finish second with six points on the day. Defensively, the Mids back line caused 12 of the Leopards' 19 turnovers in the game. Ten different players caused at least one turnover, led by Larkin and Heyward who paced the team with two CTs apiece. Navy used four goalies in the contest. The Midshipmen posted four saves, while surrendering five goals. Two of the five goals surrendered came on free-possession opportunities. Starter Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the victory, working over 44 minutes between the pipes registering three saves, while surrendering just three goals. Harchelroad gave way to Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) who did not allow a goal in nearly nine minutes of action. Annie Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) and Maddy Bell (Winter Park, Fla.) combined for the final seven minutes allowing a pair of goals with a save. The Midshipmen won the draw control battle, 21-6. Freshman Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) posted a career-high 14 draws in the game, tying for third all-time in Navy's single game records with Loren Generi (2012-15). The rookie now has 105 draw controls this season to rank sixth in a single season and eighth in Navy's career annals. Navy picked up 17 ground balls, led by Larkin's career-high of four. Heyward and Harchelroad added three apiece. Lafayette finished the game with five goals on 16 shots, including converting a pair of free-position opportunities. Five different players finished with goals for the Leopards. Defensively, the Leopards tallied 14 saves. Starter Quinn Lacy led the way with nine saves, but surrendered 15 goals to take the loss, while Taylor Danson notched five stops with six goals allowed. Navy opened up the scoring with a pair of goals by seniors O'Sullivan and Paige Brigham (Bainbridge Island, Wash.). Following a Leopard goal, the Midshipmen proceeded to go on a 13-0 run to close the half, taking a 15-1 lead into halftime. Blanche had five goals during the run to set a personal best in the first half. Also during the run, O'Sullivan netted her 100th career goal to become the 13th player in Navy women's lacrosse history with 100 or more goals. In the second half, the two teams played nearly even with Navy recording six goals and Lafayette notching four. Blanche added a pair of scores in the second half to give her seven on the day. "Coming off the bench, I knew I had to do what I could to help out the team," Blanche said of her performance. "I couldn't do it without my team though. Almost all of the goals were assisted. The past three years playing with these seniors has been amazing so we wanted to get them a victory on Senior Day." Navy returns to action on Thursday, April 25 as the Midshipmen head north to Massachusetts for a Patriot League showdown with Boston University. Opening draw between the Mids and the Terriers is slated for 4:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for the game.
