The Lehigh women's lacrosse team outscored No. 13 Navy 5-3 through the middle stages of the first half to pull within 8-5 late in the stanza, but the Mids answered in a big way, downing the Mountain Hawks 23-6 on Wednesday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Despite being face guarded for much of the game, junior Sondra Dickey scored a team-high two goals while adding four draw controls, a groundball and caused turnover. Lehigh will look to regroup on Saturday when it hosts Army West Point at 6 p.m. "I thought we had a really nice stretch, but for the second league game in a row at home, we had a really poor close of the first half," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. Freshman Maggie Kelly added a goal and assist for her first-career multi-goal game. Senior Courtney Henig tallied a goal and assist as well. Freshman Emma McGillis led the defense with two caused turnovers. The Mountain Hawks went down 5-0 just over eight minutes into the contest, but Kelly got Lehigh on the board at the 17:36 mark. Navy answered to go up 7-1, but the Mountain Hawks came back with four of the next five, beginning and ending with Dickey goals, to pull Lehigh within 8-5 at 4:09 of the first half. The other goals were scored by seniors Henig and Kellie Gough. Navy scored the final five goals of the first half, including four in the final 52 seconds, to take a 13-5 halftime lead. That run continued into the second half, with the Mids scoring 10 of the 11 goals to pull away. Final shots were 42-19 in favor of Navy while the Midshipmen held a 16-9 edge in groundballs and 20-10 advantage in draw controls. Sophomore Samantha Sagi made eight saves in goal, including seven strong stops in the first half. She was relieved in the second half by freshman Kerry McHugh, thene sophomore Claudia Hanover. ehigh will look to bounce back on Saturday when it hosts Army West Point at 6 p.m. "We have some reliance," said Redfern. "We have some injuries right now, but primarily, we have to regroup. We had three tough teams first, so that was a pretty rough schedule. These next games should be more competitive for us."
