BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's lacrosse team went on a 5-1 run to turn an early 2-0 deficit into a 5-3 lead, on the way to an impressive and important 12-8 Patriot League victory on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks went on to score four straight goals in the second half to open an 11-5 advantage. With the win, Lehigh is back within one game of the sixth and final Patriot League Tournament spot with three regular season games still remaining. "This is one of the first games all seasons when we've really been resilient for both halves," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "It got better as we went and we finished the game off. Shout out to our scout team this week. That unit made a difference today." Junior Sondra Dickey led Lehigh's offense with five goals and six points, eclipsing 50 points on the season and 150 points in her career. It marked Dickey's sixth game of the season with four or more goals. Senior Kellie Gough also impressed on her Senior Day, recording three goals (all in the second half) and two assists. Seniors Mary Ellen Carron and Courtney Henig each had a goal and assist. Gough, Carron, Henig, Kaitlyn Quinn, Olivia Kelly and Jane Henderson were all recognized prior to opening draw on Senior Day. "Credit Coach Sammy (Cermack)," said Redfern. "I thought she did a great job of preparing our offense against their zone. Our team followed the plan and it made all the difference on the offensive end." Sophomore Julianne Puckette, who scored twice on the afternoon, opened the scoring for Lehigh at the 16:23 mark of the first half to pull the Mountain Hawks within 2-1. Lehigh would score the next two and four of the next five, three of the goals scored by Dickey who had a hand in four of Lehigh's five first-half goals (three goals, one assist). The Mountain Hawks held a 5-4 lead at halftime. Dickey from Cermack. Sondra has three goals and an assist already and the Mountain Hawks retake the lead. The Crusaders would score three times in the final 4:37, but couldn't get any closer than four as the Mountain Hawks wrapped up the 12-8 victory. Final shots were 32-20 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 17-14 edge in groundballs and 14-8 advantage in draw controls. Junior Samantha Sagi was strong in goal, making eight saves. Junior Alexandra Ladda helped lead the defense with three caused turnovers, also adding two groundballs and two draw controls. "Sam was terrific," said Redfern. "I think our young defense grew up a little today. I'm happy for our team all-around."
