Sophomore Galen Lew's career-high five goals led No. 21 Stanford lacrosse to a Pink Game victory over Fresno State, 17-5, at Cagan Stadium on Thursday night. A full recap to come. Stanford (1-1) hosted its Pink Game to raise awareness for breast cancer. The team wore pink socks, pink laces and pink warmup shirts. The field lines were painted pink and pink pom poms and programs were handed out to those in attendance. Stanford's honorary team captain was Kellee Noonan. Noonan is a breast cancer survivor and she and her husband, Douglas, are loyal fans of the program. Noonan was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2004 and underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments in 2005. As a 14-year survivor, she shows no indication of any remaining cancer. Lew was one of nine goal scorers for the Cardinal. Senior Julia Massaro led the team with four draw controls while sophomore Chelsea Trattner scooped up a team-high four ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Trudie Grattan made six saves and allowed just three goals in the first half. Freshman Julia Cooper stood between the pipes for the final 30 minutes and allowed just four goals along with four saves and three ground balls. For the game, Stanford out-shot Fresno State, 43-20, held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls and had the edge in ground balls, 25-17. Stanford also forced 20 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to just 14-of-24 (.583) on clear attempts. Stanford will wrap up its season-opening three-game homestand on Sunday against UC Davis at 1 p.m.
