FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State lacrosse team capped its three game home stand with a 13-7 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon at the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. The Bulldogs improve to 6-3 on the season. Fresno State was led by freshman Sydney Skalstad who fired four goals and senior Ryleigh Bone who contributed three. The Bulldogs saw six different scorers for the second consecutive game. "I thought we showed up today and played with a really great team effort," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "Defense really held their ground in the second half and Laurel having 14 saves was really strong on the defensive end as well. Mannon drew a charge call which was really big and it is something that we really work on with defense. On the draws, Sydney and Kayla did a really great job at working together. Attacking wise, again we had another game with six scorers and spreading out the game. We also always try to have at least half of our goals assisted, so overall we did a good job with all of that today." Junior Laurel Maunder was outstanding in the net this weekend, grabbing 17 saves on Friday against Radford and 14 saves today against Quinnipiac. Skalstad, Bone, Hannah Krats, Kayla Galet, Marina Mayo, Tiffiny Wallace, Olivia Mannon, Abbigayle Roberts, Jordyn Pandolfo, Angela Saladino and Kayle Kaesbauer led the charge for the 'Dogs, with Maunder in the cage. FIRST HALF The opening half was full of shot attempts from both teams, as the teams combined for 37 shots in the first 30 minutes of play. The Bulldogs got out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Galet and Mayo before the Bobcats could score their first with 23:32 left in the first half. Skalstad fired for her first goal of the game with 20:52 on the clock, but the Bobcats answered back with a goal at 18:54. The Bulldogs held on to a 3-2 lead before Bone could heat up. The senior attacker got hot at the right time, firing three goals in a two-minute span to put the Bulldogs on top, 6-2. Pandolfo added a goal on the assist from Wallace and the Bulldogs took a 7-2 lead with 14:21 to go. Quinnipiac went on a scoring run of its own and added three consecutive goals to cut the Bulldog lead down to two with 7:45 left on the clock. The Bulldogs weren't thrown off as they went for another scoring run, ending the period with five unanswered goals. Krats got things started with a converted free position shot. Krats was a major part in the final run, assisting two of the four remaining goals. Mayo scored with 5:07 to go and Skalstad completed her hat trick with back-to-back goals. Galet fired one in with one minute remaining and Fresno State took a 12-5 lead into halftime. SECOND HALF A fresh clock came with an entirely new game. With 17 combined goals in the first half, the teams only tallied for three in the final 30 minutes of play. Quinnipiac opened the half with a pair of goals from Allison Kuhn, both assisted from Megan Szawlowski. The first goal was scored with 11:34 to go and the next wasn't until the clock read 3:50. Skalstad scored the only Bulldog goal of the half with 3:13 to go. Both teams had solid defense to keep any scoring from happening in the final minutes.
