FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A 9-0 run for visiting Hofstra proved decisive on Saturday afternoon as Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse was on the short side of a 20-11 final on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags' attack was fueled by Brooke Gallagher's career-high eight points. Fairfield takes its first blemish of 2019, falling to 3-1 while the Pride move to 3-1 on the year. Gallagher, who had six points in Wednesday's win at Columbia, improved her career best once again today with two goals and a personal-best six assists. The graduate student was one helper shy of the program record of seven assists established by Jessica Jordan '01 in a 17-5 victory over Le Moyne on April 17, 1999. Gallagher leads the Stags with 15 points (7g, 8a) on the year. Jillian Winwood registered a hat trick in the effort, extending her point streak to nine consecutive games. Taylor Mitchell added two goals to tie Winwood atop Fairfield's season leaderboard with 10 goals apiece this spring. Kathleen Hulseman also scored a pair. Single tallies from Meaghan Graham and Cameryn Dera rounded out the scoring efforts. The game started as a back-and-forth affair with the team's trading tallies over the first 15 minutes to a 4-4 deadlock. The Stags were the first team to net consecutive tallies as Michell's goal at the 14:04 mark put Fairfield in front, 5-4. One more goal each way had the hosts leading by a 6-5 count with 11:48 remaining in the opening half. However, that goal by Gallagher would be the Stags' final score for a span of 22:56 as the Pride rang up the next nine goals to take a commanding 15-6 lead. After Winwood ended the drought with 18:52 to go, the teams resumed trading goals the remainder of the way, which was more than enough for the Pride to lock up the 20-11 win. Hofstra's Alexa Mattera led all players with six goals, and Alyssa Parrella added five goals and an assist. Darcie Smith helped keep the Pride on the attack with 11 draw controls to go along with two goals of her own. After Saturday's game, the Stags make their only road trip in a 34-day stretch with a 5 p.m. visit to Boston University on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The Terriers are 2-1 on the year after a 20-2 victory this morning at Hartford. Following Wednesday's game, Fairfield starts a three-game homestand on Sunday, March 3 against New Hampshire. The Stags will also host #13/18 Denver on March 8 and Sacred Heart on March 20 as a part of the three-game residency at Rafferty Stadium.
