Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse saw its lead shrink to a single goal three times on Sunday afternoon against visiting New Hampshire, but the host Stags answered the bell on each occasion to keep the Wildcats in their rearview mirror en route to a 14-11 win. Reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Brooke Gallagher netted seven points in the victory on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with four goals and three assists. "It wasn't that we played perfectly, but we got big stops and turnovers when we needed them and scored clutch goals when we needed them," said Fairfield Head Coach Laura Field. "We haven't had a 'comeback' win this season. And while we didn't have to come back from a deficit on the scoreboard today, we certainly came back as far as shifting the momentum, and I think that's one of the best takeaways from this win." Gallagher's seven-point day slots her atop the Fairfield leaderboard with 11 assists and 22 total points on the spring. Taylor Mitchell added a hat trick in today's victory – the 16th of her career – to increase her team leading total to 16 goals this season. Fairfield's (4-2) balanced attack also saw Diana DeVita, Kathleen Hulseman, and Jillian Winwood post identical statlines with two goals and one assist apiece. Meaghan Graham scored a goal and Cameryn Dera distributed her first career assist to round out today's scoring. On the defensive end, Olivia Conquest made 11 saves in the cage and scooped up a team-best three ground balls. The unit in front of her was led by three caused turnovers from Erin Mammele. The starting backline also featured Kennedy Slater, Keyla Bay, Caroline Mangan and Maggie Reynolds In the midfield, Mammele nabbed six draw controls with Mangan chipping in five. Hulseman added two caused turnovers and two ground balls to her three-point day on the attack. New Hampshire (3-2), which had won its three previous games by a combined score of 45-21, was paced offensively by three goals and an assist from Rylee Leonard. Devan Miller added a hat trick for the Wildcats, and Catherine Sexton had a three-point day with a goal and two assists. Today's contest was the start of a three-game homestand for Fairfield. Up next, the Stags will also host #9 Denver on Friday, March 8. The Pioneers, who had their game on Sunday at unbeaten Vanderbilt cancelled due to harsh weather conditions in the Mile High City, are 4-1 and most recently took their first loss of the season with a 12-10 setback at the hands of #20 Michigan. "The good news is that we have nothing to lose," said Field of the upcoming matchup with the Pioneers. "When you get a nationally-ranked team coming in, it's an opportunity to make a statement. Hopefully we get continued great performances from Liv in goal and our defense as a unit, and we're going to play hard and give it our best shot."
