• Sophomore Abby Hormes passed the 100 career-point mark with four goals and two assists • Senior Samantha Herman became the first Panther to record 200 draw controls • The Panthers open Big South play Saturday against Longwood at Vert Stadium HIGH POINT, N.C.—The No. 23 High Point University women's lacrosse team defeated Elon, 16-12, Wednesday night (March 27) at Vert Stadium. After the Panthers (6-4) scored the first three goals of the game, the Phoenix (2-8) came back to pull within one at 5-4 with 8:11 left in the first half, but HPU countered with the next five goals to take a 10-4 lead. The closest the Phoenix would get was four at 10-6 and the final score, 16-12. "We were excited to be at home tonight and get this big win over Elon," HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. "They're a great team, well coached and gave us a run for our money throughout the game. I'm really proud of girls for the way they kept their composure and fought through a little adversity." With six points tonight on four goals and two assists, sophomore Abby Hormes passed the 100 career-point mark. Senior Valerie Pelling recorded four points with a hat trick and an assist, while fellow senior Allie Little had three points on a goal and two assists. Senior Samantha Herman became the first Panther to record 200 career draw controls after collecting seven. She has 205 now in her career. Herman also scored two goals, as did sophomore Rachel Foster and freshman Mena Loescher. On the defensive end, redshirt junior Meredith Chapman caused five turnovers and grabbed five draw controls and three ground balls. In goal, sophomore Sarah Zeto made 11 saves to earn the win and move to 5-4 on the season. Paulina Difatta made 10 saves for the Phoenix. Mae McGlynn led Elon with five goals. Up next, the Panthers open Big South play on Saturday (March 30) against Longwood. First draw at Vert Stadium is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
