ELON, N.C. – Leading at the break, Elon University women's lacrosse couldn't hold down Hofstra in the second half in falling 10-6 on Sunday, April 7, at Rudd Field. THE RUNDOWN After the Pride (9-4, 2-0 CAA) scored the opening goal with Alyssa Parrella scoring on a free position shot, Elon (3-9, 1-1) went on a 4-0 run with goals from four different goal scorers while holding Hofstra off the board for 26:15 of game action. During the run, Kaley Thompson scored Elon's first goal of the day after earning a free position shot down a player. Building its lead in the first half, Elon had seven free position shots to Hofstra's three. But after the Phoenix built the 5-2 halftime lead, Hofstra settled down on defense and held Elon to just one second-half goal with one free position shot. Out of the gate in the second half, the two teams traded goals in a matter of 78 seconds to make it a 6-3 game with 25:32 to go. But the Pride settled in with Parrella scoring Hofstra's next three goals in a span of 2:04 to tie the game at 6-6. Following an Alexa Mattera goal to put Hofstra up for good with 20:44 to go, Parrella added two more goals down the stretch while Hofstra's defense didn't allow a goal in the final 25-plus minutes on the way to the win. HIGHLIGHTS Cami Lynch scored two first-half goals and had an assist for a team-high three points. Quinn Daly, Gillian Curran, Kaley Thompson and Bella Feldman rounded out Elon's scoring for the day with one goal apiece. Curran also had an assist, three ground balls and two draw controls while Thompson picked up four draw controls and a ground ball with one caused turnover. Paulina DiFatta finished the day with 12 saves and two ground balls. Parrella was the only Pride player to score more than once, finishing with six goals and an assist for seven points. Elon's Shannon Horan caused two turnovers on the day and held Parrella to one goal in the first half while keeping the Hofstra midfielder off balance throughout the opening 30 minutes. Parrella also had two ground balls and two draw controls. Alyssa DeAngelo led the team with three ground balls and Darcie Smith picked up four draw controls. NOTES -Elon outshot Hofstra 15-14 in the first half, but the Pride outshot Elon 14-9 in the second half while making its run. -Eight of Paulina DiFatta's saves came in the first half. -While Elon only turned the ball over 11 times on the day, Hofstra had eight turnovers in the first half before only turning it over five times in the second half. -Mae McGlynn was held without a goal for the first time this season, keeping her team-best total at 30 on the year.
