FAIRFAX, Va. — Despite a strong start to the first half, buoyed by two goals from Kyra O'Gorman, the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team couldn't stay with the George Mason Patriots, ultimately falling 19-5. The Patriots (7-5, 3-1 Atlantic 10) looked like they were doing to take full control out of the gate after starting the game on a 6-1 run over the first 12 minutes. The lone Bonnies goal came from junior Kyra O'Gorman on an assist from Julia Davidson. But the Bonnies (1-11, 0-4 A-10) were able to battle back into it early. A free position goal from senior Rylee Arnold in a man-down situation, followed by O'Gorman's second score of the afternoon just one minute later, cut the Mason lead to 6-3 and forced a Patriots timeout. Out of the break, Mason went on another 3-0 scoring run to extend their lead to six. Davidson tried to get the Bonnies back into it with an unassisted goal, her second point of the game, after a great dodge and cut into the crease, but the Patriots answered with three more goals before half to make it 12-4 after 30 minutes. The second half was all George Mason. The Patriots outscored the Bonnies by a 7-1 margin in a half that was majority running clock. Ashley Easterday had the only score for St. Bonaventure midway through the half. It was the sophomore's 13th goal of the season. After finding success last game in the draw control circle, the Bonnies won just nine of their 26 opportunities and were successful on only 13 of their 18 clears. The Colonials also held a strong advantage in shots, 39-16. Bonnies goalie Savannah Clarke finished the day with nine saves. After a three-game road swing, the Bonnies finally return home to host their second A-10 conference matchup this Friday when La Salle comes to the Marra Athletics Complex. GAME NOTES The game ended an impressive streak for junior Destinee Johnson as it was her first game without a point in the entire month of March. Over her last nine games dating back to March 1 at Butler, she amassed 30 points and scored at least once in every contest. Junior Kyra O'Gorman has found a scoring spark over her last two contests. After finding the back of the net at George Washington, she scored twice Sunday to register her second two-goal game of the season. With her four ground balls, senior Kathryn Yoder now leads all Bonnies field players with 24 along with 24 caused turnovers.
