On a cold Friday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the Colonials were dealt a 15-8 defeat by the visiting California Golden Bears. Cal led from start to finish, scoring the first four goals of the game and building an eight-goal lead at its largest. GW responded from the early deficit, as three Colonials found the net over a 14-minute span while the defense allowed just one score, to make it 5-3 with 6:28 left in the first half. From there, though, the Bears scored five unanswered to go into intermission with a 10-3 lead. The Colonials would go on to match the visitors in the second half, with each team tallying five scores. NOTEWORTHY · Sophomore Ioanna Mantzouratos and first-year Tori Hampton tallied two goals apiece, while sophomore Catie Perkins had two assists, to lead GW offensively. · Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Oler played all 60 minutes, faced 35 shots and came up with 12 saves. Two Cal keepers split time and combined for 13 saves against 27 shots. · Cassie Scandalios collected a game-high six groundballs to help give the Colonials a 15-12 overall advantage. The sophomore leads the team with 17 through four games. · Cal held a 10-4 advantage in draw controls in the first half to help build its lead. The Colonials had a 6-5 edge in the second half, when goals were even at five apiece.
