Emmitsburg, Md. (March 13, 2019) – Mount St. Mary's had eight players finish with multi-point games as the Mountaineers rolled to a 17-9 victory over George Washington on Wednesday at Waldron Family Stadium. Carly Miller finished with five points on one goal and a season-high four assists, and Jordan Butler notched four points on three goals and one helper to lead the way. Miller, who led the Mountaineers in points and assists last season, registered her highest point total of the year thus far with her five-point effort. Butler continued her breakout season with her fourth multi-goal game of the campaign. Beanie Colson (3g) and Zoe Hurlburt (2g, 1a) posted three points apiece, while Colson also added a game-high seven draw controls. Jordan Groover, Taylor Carhart and Emily Davis each finished with a pair of goals, and Kate Kinsella (1g, 1a) also added two points to round out the team's multi-point performances. Senior goalie Jillian Petito made a season-high 14 saves in the contest to collect her fifth win of the year. The Mount struck for three goals in the opening 1:34 of play as Butler, Carhart and Groover each found the back of the net to stake the Mountaineers out to an early 3-0 advantage. Minutes later, the Mount got two more from Miller and Kinsella to make it five straight goals to begin the contest. George Washington got its first goal of the game at the 22:30 mark from leading scorer Ionna Mantzouratos, but the Mountaineers answered with back-to-back goals from Hurlburt and Butler to extend their lead to the largest of the half at 7-1. The Colonials registered consecutive goals by Morgan McDonnell and Christine Weber to cut into the deficit to pull within four scores, but Colson tallied a pair of goals in the final two-plus minutes of play as the Mountaineers carried a 9-4 lead into the second half. The Colonials outscored the Mount by a slim 3-2 margin in the opening eight minutes of the second half to trim the lead back to four, before Mount St. Mary's responded with back-to-back tallies from Carhart and Groover to make it a 13-7 game. After a goal from GW's Katie Quinn, the Mount netted three in a row with Colson, Butler and Davis picking up the scores to give the Mount a commanding 16-8 lead with 8:14 on the clock. Hurlburt added a goal late in the contest and the Mount closed out the 17-9 victory. Mount St. Mary's continues its home stand next Wednesday, March 20 against Longwood at 4 p.m.
