On a rainy afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington lacrosse team wrapped up its home slate with a 20-9 setback to Duquesne on Friday. HOW IT HAPPENED The Dukes were the first to strike, finding the back of the net just 39 seconds into the game before GW responded two minutes later with a goal of its own from Morgan McDonnell. Duquesne bounced back with a trio of tallies before being halted by the Buff and Blue with a goal from Aidan Cage. The Dukes continued to push on attack for the remainder of the half, scoring seven goals while holding the Colonials to three to go into the break with the 11-5 advantage. After closing the half with back-to-back goals, the Colonials opened up the scoring in the second half with a strike from Katie Quinn. The Dukes, however, regained their first half momentum with three straight goals to go up 14-6 with 26:52 to play. Duquesne continued to press offensively and scored six more times to finish the day with the 20-9 victory. NOTEWORTHY • Aidan Cage racked up five points on two goals and three assists to pace the squad offensively, while Katie Quinn registered two points with a pair of goals. Christine Weber, Tori Hampton, McDonnell, Alana Greene, and Kendall Lambert all added to GW's offensive effort with one goal each. • Captain Caroline Kiernan led the Buff and Blue on the back line with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. • Sophomore keeper Jenna Oler played 48:32 and made 13 saves on the day while Alexa Solomon saw 11:28 of action and registered one save. • The Dukes held an advantage in every statistical category: shots (45-21), ground balls (17-15), and draw controls (23-8). UP NEXT The Colonials will make the short trip to Fairfax, Va. to face George Mason on Sunday at 1 p.m.
