Senior Taylor VanThof broke the program's all-time career record for draw controls in the 11th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team's 13-10 win over No. 22 Georgetown Wednesday night at Ridley Athletic Complex. With six draw controls tonight, VanThof moves her career total to 319, breaking her older sister Taryn's program record of 318 from 2011-15. VanThof was also one of seven Greyhounds to score in the game, with senior Hannah Powers leading all players with six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore Elli Kluegel and freshman Jillian Wilson also contributed three goals each, while sophomores Emily Beier, Sam Fiedler and Livy Rosenzweig, in addition to VanThof, added one goal apiece. In goal for Loyola (5-3 overall), senior Kady Glynn recorded her 16th collegiate double-digit save game, and fifth of the season, turning back a game-high 13 shots. Senior Kristen Yanchoris also caused a game-high four turnovers, while Fiedler and senior Lindsey Ehrhart finished with four and three ground balls, respectively. For Georgetown (5-4), Natalia Lynch had a team-best three goals and four points. Wilson led the Greyhounds to an early 5-1 advantage, recording her first collegiate hat trick by the 15:28 mark. Kluegel started the scoring with a free position goal, followed by a Hoyas strike at 24:27. Wilson then netted a free position goal before finishing a feed from Powers to put Loyola up 3-1 at 19:38. Beier gave the Greyhounds a third free position goal at the 15:47 mark, followed by Wilson's third goal of the game, assisted by VanThof, at 15:28. Georgetown halted Loyola's run with a goal at 14:21, but the Greyhounds answered with a pair of scores from VanThof and Fiedler to stretch their lead to five, 7-2, with 12:49 to play in the first half. A pair of Hoya goals cut Loyola's lead to 7-4 at the halftime break before a third-straight visitor goal moved Georgetown within two, 7-5, at the 27:15 mark of the second half. Kluegel and Powers answered with goals for the Greyhounds, regaining their four-goal advantage, 9-5. Three-unanswered goals from the Hoyas got them within one, 9-8, with 14:09 to play, but Powers went on a three-point run – assisting Rosenzweig at 13:26 before scoring at 10:54 and 6:43 – to give the Greyhounds a 12-8 advantage. Kluegel's free position goal at 5:37 put Loyola ahead 13-8 with 5:37 to play, ultimately making the Hoyas' deficit to large to overcome. Georgetown scored the final two goals of the game, but Loyola held on for the 13-10 victory. The Greyhounds will be back in action on Saturday when they host Lehigh at 1 p.m.
