DURHAM, N.H. – Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.) recorded a career-high seven points to propel the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday morning's 15-10 victory against UMBC at Wildcat Stadium. Leonard matched her career highs in both goals (four) and assists (three) for a personal best of seven points. Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) equaled her career high of four assists and Mickenzie Larivee (Amherst, N.H.) tallied four goals. Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) scored a season-high three goals and also had a team-high four draw controls. Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) and Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) both scored twice. The Wildcats' next home game is the Senior Day regular-season finale against Stony Brook University on April 28. Game time at Wildcat Stadium is 12 p.m. FIRST HALF UMBC scored the first two goals of the game 14 seconds apart – Van Kirk at 29:38 and Catherine Sims at 29:24 – to quickly take a 2-0 lead. Van Kirk scored again for the Retrievers on a free-position tally at 26:47. New Hampshire answered the visitor's quick three-goal outburst with a run of five consecutive goals. Sexton passed to Neyland, who took a high shot just outside of the goal crease at the right doorstep to score the Wildcats' first goal and cut UMBC's lead to 3-1 at 26:06. Sexton earned her second assist of the day on a feed to Larivee, who scored on a low shot to pull UNH within 3-2 at 24:08. With 22:23 remaining, Miller scored her 50th career goal to tie the game at 3. Leonard extended her point streak to 13 games with cut down the middle and low shot that gave UNH its first lead of the game, 4-3, at 19:02. Neyland scored a free-position goal, her second goal of the game, extending UNH's lead to 5-3 with 15:10 left in the half. Sims scored a on a free-position shot to end a 15-minute scoring drought and cut UNH's lead to one goal, 5-4, at 11:40. Leonard scored her 26th goal of the season – on Sexton's third assist of the day – when she rifled a low shot from eight meters to reestablish a two-goal margin over UMBC, 6-4, at 10:59. At 7:57, Larivee capitalized on a player-up advantage to score a goal that increased the advantage to 7-4. Hernon scored 55 seconds later, then Leonard netted her third of the game on a high shot from the right doorstep to push the gap to five goals, 9-4, at 5:40. UMBC's Zoe Pekins scored unassisted at 4:16 to close the first-half scoring. SECOND HALF UMBC's Jessica Loveless opened the second half scoring 47 seconds after the opening draw to lift the visitors within 9-6. Van Kirk passed to Sims, who capitalized for a goal with 23:12 remaining. Grayson Corbett struck 26 seconds later (22:46) and Olivia Docal tied the score, 9-9, just 10 seconds after that (22:36). UMBC extended its run to six consecutive goals and reclaimed the lead, 10-9, when Kennedy converted Corbett's pass at 21:40. That would be the visitor's last goal of the game, however, as New Hampshire closed the game on a 6-0 run. Larivee intercepted a pass at midfield to give the Wildcats possession, then finished a feed from Leonard to score her third goal of the game and tie the score, 10-10, at 16:49. The Wildcats were awarded a free position and Sexton opted to pass to Neyland, whose catch-and-shoot from the top of the goalie circle went under the crossbar for her third goal of the game and 11-10 UNH lead at 14:48. Leonard increased the lead to two goals, 12-10, with 12:51 remaining. With 1:41 left, Larivee scored from the middle of the fan off Leonard's pass to extend the lead to 13-10. Forty-one seconds later, Hernon scored her second goal of the game as she drove down the middle of the fan. With 25 seconds on the clock, Miller netted her second goal of the game to secure the 15-10 victory for the Wildcats. UNH NOTEBOOK New Hampshire's nine-win total is the highest since the 2010 squad went 10-7. UNH improved to 4-2 at home, and that includes 3-0 vs. America East foes. Miller's first goal of the game was her 30th of the season and 50th of her career. Leonard extended her point streak to 13 games. Larivee's goal and point streaks are now seven games. Sexton's four assists are the most by a Wildcat since she also had four assists Feb. 10, 2018 vs. Sacred Heart. Hernon's two goals matched a personal best, as did her two points. Torres posted 12 saves for the second consecutive game and has five double-digit save efforts this season. Torres held UMBC scoreless for 15 minutes in the first half as UNH surged ahead 5-3, then shut out the Retrievers the final 21:40 of the game. UNH's seven assists equaled the season high (done four times previously). The Wildcats' 28 ground balls marked the team's second highest total of the year. Six 'Cats accounted for all 22 points (15g, 7a). INSIDE THE NUMBERS UMBC had the edge in draw controls (17-10), including 10-2 in the second half. UNH led in ground balls (28-19).
