BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse finished out the 2019 home season on a high note, taking down the UMass Lowell River Hawks, 11-5, on Senior Day on Saturday. With the win, the Retrievers clinch a spot in the 2019 America East women's lacrosse tournament. STRAIGHT FACTS The Retrievers opened the game on a 4-0 run, as Lily Kennedy (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge), Catherine Sims (Elkridge, Md./Howard), Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), and Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) all scored within the first ten minutes of the first half. The period was silent until the River Hawks scored at the 3:27 mark to cut into UMBC's lead, 4-1, but Grayson Corbett (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) counteracted a minute later to put Retrievers up, 5-1 before halftime. Out of the break, Corbett extended UMBC's lead before UMass Lowell scored on a free position shot to cut the lead to 6-2. Kennedy and Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) scored around a River Hawk's goal before UMass Lowell scored two straight to cut UMBC's lead to 8-5. The Retrievers added insurance goals at the end of the game, finishing the game on a three-goal run from Corbett, Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), and Sims. FOR THE RECORD UMBC moves to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in America East play. UMass Lowell falls to 4-12 on the year and 1-5 in conference contests. BY THE NUMBERS 54 - With her seven draw controls today, Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) has 54 for the season, which is tied for seventh in a single season (Caitlin Miller, 2017). 10 - Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) finished the day with 10 saves, her tenth game this season with 10+ stops. 4 - Corbett finished the day with a game-high four points off three goals and one assist.
