LOWELL, Mass. – After falling behind by five in the first half, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (0-4) wasn't able to complete the comeback against Colgate (2-1), falling 12-9 on Saturday at Wicked Blue Field. "We're very disappointed in our effort, our execution, for sure, and our ability to stick to the game plan," said Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "We had a really hard time remembering what we prepared for all week, and it showed, and we had to play catch-up, and certainly, we showed up for the last seven minutes of the game, but at the DI level, that's not going to win you games." The Raiders opened the game with two free position goals, but Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) responded, scoring at 26:14 on an unassisted goal, her 11th goal of the season and sixth unassisted goal of the year. Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.) scored at 21:35 after Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) fed MacEachern. MacEachern passed it to McKelvin, who wrapped around from behind the goal to score her eighth goal of the season. Colgate also chipped in goals, though, and doubled the lead midway through the first half. The Raiders ended the half on a four-goal run to take a 7-2 lead at halftime. Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.) opened up scoring in the second half, with a give-and-go play from MacEachern. Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, New York) added a goal at 21:12 after a quick pass right in front of the net by Finelli, while McKelvin scored at 7:31 with an assist by Idson. The Raiders managed to extend their lead to 11-4 heading into the final eight minutes of the game, but the River Hawks made a run to keep the game within reach. They outscored Colgate 5-1 in the final minutes of the game, but the Raiders' cushion proved to be too much, and UMass Lowell dropped a 12-9 decision. Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) had a game-high six draw controls, while Kelly Moran (Exeter, N.H.) tallied four, tallying her 100th career draw control in the process. Caster also had three caused turnovers in the game. MacEachern ended with two goals and two assists, while McKelvin had a hat trick as the River Hawks outshot the Raiders 31-26, and 23-19 in shots on goal. The River Hawks remain home for game two of their four-game homestand, welcoming Holy Cross on Wednesday, February 27 at 6 p.m.
