HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Mar. 25, 2017) - Junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) posted a hat-trick, including scoring the game-winner with 2:25 remaining in double overtime, as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. Senior Luke Tremont (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) finished with three points on two goals and one assist for the Cyclones who improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Jacob Snavely totaled four points on three goals and one assist for the Griffins who fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC. Tremont had a hand in both first half goals as Centenary trailed 4-2 at the break. He netted the first goal of the afternoon with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter and assisted on senior Michael Balsamo (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) goal just before halftime. GMercyU stretched their advantage to 5-2 in the opening minute of the second half, but the Cyclones rallied with four unanswered goals, including back-to-back scores from Gottshall. Centenary finally regained the lead in the fourth when freshman Robert Amanto (Avon Grove, Pa / Avon Grove) connected with sophomore Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) for the go-ahead goal with 10:08 remaining in regulation. The Griffins would bookend the half with a game-tying goal with less than three minutes to play that forced a sudden death overtime session. In the first overtime, sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) made three of his 16 saves, including stopping Snavely's shot as time expired to force a second overtime. In the second extra session, Gottshall beat his defender and ripped a shot that blazed past Griffins netminder Chris Burns for the victory. After scoring the goal, Gottshall ripped off his helmet and sprinted towards midfield where the rest team piled on him in celebration. ???????Gottshall added eight groundballs, while junior Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) totaled six groundballs and two caused turnovers. Tremont added four groundballs, while freshman Jon Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) tallied three caused turnovers and one groundball. Junior Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) totaled an assist and three groundballs, while freshman Nick Bogert (Islip Terrace, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) scooped up two groundballs. Freshman Chris Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) went 11-for-18 on faceoffs with two groundballs.
