FINAL SCORE: No. 20 Stony Brook 17, Vermont 2 BURLINGTON, Vt. – The UVM women's lacrosse team was handed a 17-2 setback to 20th-ranked Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon in the annual Rally Against Cancer game presented by Inspired Closets. The Catamounts slip to 7-4 on the season and 1-3 in the league standings. The Seawolves also move to 7-4 overall and stay unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. HOW IT HAPPENED Stony Brook jumped out to a 9-0 advantage before Vermont cashed in a free position shot with 11 minutes left in the first half. MacKenzie Bolt sprinted in from the right side and fired a line drive inside of the right post for the score. The Seawolves wrapped up the first half with four more goals and took a 13-1 lead into the break. UVM added its second goal of the afternoon in the first minute of the second half. In the midst of a scrum near the goal, Reilly Drab came away with the loose ball and drove a shot into the top left corner of the net. SBU tallied four goals in the second half for the final margin of victory. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Bolt's goal was her fifth of the season and the sophomore caused one turnover. Drab reached the scoring column for the first time in her Catamount career. Molly McDonough won a team-high five draw controls and caused two turnovers. On the defensive end, Micaela O'Mara forced three turnovers, picked up three ground balls, and registered one draw control. Maddy Kuras reached double digits with 10 saves between the pipes. Saturday's matinee was also UVM's inaugural "Vanessa Cox #23 Memorial Game" to honor the late Vanessa Cox '05. She was a 2015 UVM Athletic Hall of Fame inductee who graduated as the all-time leader in points (173) and goals (133). She was tragically killed in a car crash in February of 2015 at the age of 31. Starting this year, the coaching staff will select one player to wear the No. 23 for the annual Vanessa Cox #23 Memorial game. This year's honoree was senior defender Micaela O'Mara. The selection is based on the qualities of Vanessa's character – determination to win, true competitor and made those teammates around her better. WHO'S NEXT Vermont will have a week off before heading to UMass Lowell next Saturday (April 13). The opening draw is set for 1 p.m. All of the action can be seen on AmericaEast.TV.
