The Basics • Score: #20 Stony Brook-12, #19 Johns Hopkins-9 • Records: JHU (9-5) • SBU (8-4) • Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field • The Short Story: Junior Maggie Schneidereith scored her 100th career goal but the Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team fell to 20th-ranked Stony Brook, 12-9, on Tuesday night. How it Happened • Hopkins jumped out to a two-goal lead in the game's opening five minutes on goals from junior Lexi Souder and Schneidereith. Stony Brook got on the board, and cut the lead in half, at the 19:10-mark when Sara Moeller scored from in-tight. Schneidereith then tallied the 100th goal of her career when she converted a free position shot at 17:26 to put the Blue Jays up 3-1. • Ally Kennedy and Siobhan Rafferty answered with a pair of quick goals to tie the game with 13:38 to play in the half. • Hopkins retook the lead when redshirt senior Ellie McNulty fed the ball to Souder, who was cutting down the left alley and scored on the run. That sparked a run of a combined three goals by both teams in just 17 seconds. Just eight seconds later, Rafferty scored on a one-timer from the left side of the cage. McNulty then won the ensuing draw and went right to the cage, blowing a shot past Anna Tesoriero from seven yards out. • Kennedy capped the first-half scoring with back-to-back goals to send the Seawolves into the break with a 6-5 lead. • Kerri McCarthy scored just 45 seconds into the second half to push the lead to three for the visitors. Sophomore Shelby Harrison cut the deficit in half when she took a pass from Souder and scored on a high-to-low shot at 27:31. Moeller pushed the lead right back to two less than a minute later with a free position goal. • Schneidereith made it a one-goal game again when she took a pass from sophomore Aurora Cordingley in the slot, turned and fired one past Tesoriero at 25:16. Less than two minutes later, the game was tied at eight when Cordingley found senior Miranda Ibello in-tight for the one-timer. • Kennedy broke the deadlock for Stony Brook with 14:14 to play on a goal off the Sarah Pulis feed. The lead was short-lived however as Cordingley picked up her third straight helper, once again finding Ibello for the score at the 13:58-mark. • Rafferty and Mackenzie Burns answered with back-to-back goals for the Seawolves to give the visitors an 11-9 lead with 11:01 to go. Moeller would add an insurance goal with just 1:35 to play to close out the scoring. What it Means • Hopkins falls to 3-5 all-time against Stony Brook as the Seawolves win their fourth straight in the series. • Schneidereith became the 13th player in school Division I history to score 100 goals. This is the second straight season the Blue Jays have had a 100-goal scorer as both Emily Kenul and Shannon Fitzgerald hit the mark in 2018. • Cordingley tied her career-high with three assists and Souder finished with a career-best three points (2g, 1a). Junior Caroline Hoeg picked up a career-best seven ground balls, the most by a Blue Jay since Maddie Bodden had seven on March 22, 2017. • Senior Haley Crosson finished with 12 saves, two shy of her career high. It is her fifth double-digit save performance of the season.
