Closing out its spring break trip, the Boston University women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-11 setback at the hands of Johns Hopkins Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field. How It Happened Johns Hopkins delivered the opening punch just over a minute into the game, though Christine Laible settled in net, halting three straight shots to keep the Blue Jays attack at bay. Kailey Conry got the offense going as she spotted Avery Donahoe from behind the cage, who one-timed an equalizer with 21:31 left in the first. The Blue Jays broke through BU's defense to go back on top, but Bridget McCarthy knotted the score once again, 2-2, on the ensuing possession. Johns Hopkins scored back-to-back goals until BU responded nine seconds later as Kaitlin Belval corralled the ensuing draw and found Molly Kern, who put the Terriers back within one with 11:05 left before halftime. The momentum shifted back to the Blue Jays as they reeled off a 4-0 run over a six-minute span. Following a 2-0 run by Johns Hopkins to start the second frame, Lexi Lewis slotted home a free position shot to put the game within five with 25:44 left in the game. Emily Vervlied stopped another 2-0 Blue Jays before Caroline English sparked the attack with two straight scores to make it a 17-8 game. Conry and Donahoe closed out the scoring for the Terriers, though Johns Hopkins held a 10-7 scoring advantage in the second frame to improve to 5-0 on its home turf. Game Notes Donahoe has scored in all four games and posted her second hat trick of the season Sarah Andersen posted a balanced all-around effort with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Belval also stuffed the stat sheet with two assists, three draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Christine Carugati led the team with a career-best five draw controls. Conry has posted a multi-goal effort in all four games and leads the team with nine scores on the year. BU posted 11 goals at Homewood Field, matching the most an opponent has put up against the Blue Jays this season. Johns Hopkins also surrendered 11 scores against Loyola when the fellow Patriot League foe visited Homewood Field on Feb. 21. Up Next The Terriers will close out their four-game road trip at Fairfield on Wednesday, March 14 at 4 p.m.
