It was the highest ranked team that the Drexel women's lacrosse team has faced in any game since joining the Colonial Athletic Association in 2002, and it showed on Sunday as the No. 4 James Madison Dukes defeated Drexel in Harrisonburg, 15-2. The Dragons were shut out in the first half, their first goalless half of the season, before Cassidy Delaney scored the team's only goals consecutively midway through the second half. Rachel Warden won three draw controls to lead the team, adding a caused turnover and a ground ball. Arden Edgerton came up with a pair of caused turnovers, while Colleen Grady had two draw controls. The Dragons were held off the scoreboard for the first 42:11 of action before Delaney's goal with 17:49 to play made it a 12-1 game. It was a free position goal, and was followed by her second tally of the afternoon just 2:30 later. Delaney now has 15 goals on the year. Two Dukes, Elena Romesburg and Kristen Gaudian, had hat tricks on the afternoon with Gaudian adding an assist. Molly Dougherty made seven saves in goal to anchor the defensive effort. Having run the gauntlet of No. 10 Towson and No. 4 James Madison to open CAA play, the Dragons will now turn towards the unranked opponents within the league beginning next weekend when they travel to Long Island to take on Hofstra. That game will get underway at 1 p.m. on Sunday before the Dragons return home for two of their last three games of the regular season.
