Down by five at halftime and needing a victory to secure a spot in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championships, the Drexel women's lacrosse team made an impressive rally in the second half that nearly shocked the host Delaware Blue Hens, but came up just short as Delaware hung on, 10-8. The Dragons had the ball with chances to tie several times, and appeared to have the tying goal scored at one point, but could not complete the comeback. The loss ends the Dragons' season at 4-12 overall and 1-5 in CAA play. Delaware's win gives the Blue Hens the fourth and final spot in the upcoming tournament. Had the Dragons won, they would have forced a three-way tie at 2-4 with Delaware and Hofstra, and would have gotten the berth via tiebreaking scenarios. Maggie Stetson fueled the Dragons' comeback attempt, posting a career high five points with three goals and two assists. She also had five draw controls to power the way for Drexel. Karson Harris had a goal, two helpers and four draws, while Cassidy Delaney and Lucy Schneidereith had one goal and one assist apiece. Colleen Grady and Courtney Dietzel also each scored a goal. Zoe Bennett came up with 11 saves to cap her freshman season in goal. Jamie Schneidereith had three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Harris had a pair of caused turnovers along with three ground ball pickups. Molly Savage had two draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball in her collegiate finale. Stetson scored the game's first goal, giving Drexel an early 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the action. Delaware responded with three straight, but Harris made it a 3-2 game with the 28th of her rookie campaign at the 16:35 mark of the first half off an assist from Stetson. That would be the last goal of the opening half for Drexel, which went scoreless as Delaware rattled off four straight to take a 7-2 lead at intermission. Becky Gohsler scored three of those four goals for the Blue Hens. Coming out of the locker rooms, neither team was able to light up the scoreboard for more than six-and-a-half minutes until Lucy Schneidereith got the Dragons back on the board with 23:23 to go, finishing a feed from Delaney. It took just 21 seconds for Dietzel to back the Schneidereith goal up with one of her own, this one assisted by Schneidereith, making it a 7-4 game with more than 23 minutes still on the clock. After Delaware got a goal back, the Dragons scored three in a row to make it a one-goal game. First was Grady, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week who scored her only goal of the evening unassisted with 18:59 to play. It was her 32nd of an outstanding freshman campaign. Stetson scored the next two, both finishing passes from Harris. The goals were just 10 seconds apart, leaving Drexel down 8-7 with 17:27 to go. It appeared that Jamie Schneidereith had scored the game-tying goal a few minutes later, but before her shot the referees had blown the whistle for a Delaware foul. Though Drexel retained possession, the Dragons could not do anything with it and Delaware got the ball back. With just over 10 minutes to play, the Blue Hens nudged the lead back out to two. Stetson found Delaney for a goal with 5:46 to play that made it a 9-8 game. Once again, the Dragons had the ball twice with chances to score, but Delaware's Taylor Carpentier, who finished the game with eight saves, came up big when called upon and kept the Blue Hens in front. Gohsler scored with 51 seconds to play to provide the final margin, as Drexel could not convert on a last-second possession.
