BEXLEY, Ohio – In midweek action, the Capital University men's lacrosse team won a controlling 17-4 decision over visiting Heidelberg University. The result moved Capital to 6-4 on the year, while the Berg was pegged back to 0-9. The win also boosted Capital out of a three-game losing run heading toward a critical stretch in the season with two games remaining. The Crusaders put the game to bed early by blitzing the scoreboard for 10 first quarter goals -- five of which came off the stick of Evan Frund. Brenden Pelton scored first, just 49 seconds into the game, and again at the midway point of the quarter. Also finding the scoresheet in the first quarter were Jack Scharner, Jake Belt, and Nathan Mork. In a more modest second quarter, Mork, Scharner and Nathan Montgomery scored goals for the Purple and White pushing the score to 13-0 by halftime. Heidelberg responded with a pair of goals in the third quarter, both from Liam Weaver. Capital did get some scoring done in the fourth quarter as the game wound down. Belt and Pelton both scored again, while Aiden Manning and Carson Kott both got on the board for the Crusaders. Weaver added another two goals for the visitors to round out the scoring. In all, Frund led the scoring with five goals, while Pelton contributed a hat-trick. Scharner, Belt, and Mork all chipped in with two scores, and Montgomery, Manning, and Kott added solo tallies. Scharner was busy assisting as well as he dished out four helpers on the night. On the defensive side of the ball, Capital caused 15 turnovers, led by three from Doc Crimmel. Crimmel was also the leader in ground balls with three. Four Crusaders split time in the cage. Ben Houser collected three saves in the first half. Sam McInturf, Nicholas Ferda and Ryan Pierce all split time in the second 30 minutes. Alex Bruder was the netminder for Heidelberg and stopped nine shots. Michael Stiemly was credited with two assists, and four Student Princes had three ground balls a piece. Capital returns to action on Saturday for senior day against Baldwin Wallace. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with senior day activities pegged for 12:30 p.m. The program and Capital Athletics will honor 10 seniors prior to the game.
