Niagara got on the board when MacCheyne made the score 1-1 with 3:06 gone in the opening half. Shea Swartwout put the Purple Eagles up, 2-1, on an assist from Caroline Crump. With 7:28 off the clock, Michelle Messenger entered the game to fill in as Niagara's goalkeeper, relieving Maren Geiger with the score 2-2. Crump knotted the score up again at 3-3 with her second marker of the contest with 18:31 remaining in the first. Hailey D'Hont got her name on the scoresheet when she took a pass from Crump in the far right flank, coasted in on net, pocketed the team's fourth goal into the top right corner. With 5:02 left in the first, D'Hont scored again to cut the Purple Eagles' deficit to 6-5 . Crump leveled the score with a long-range shot from 20 yards away following a turnover by the Hawks from just outside their defensive third. Niagara took its first lead with 2:33 to play in the half, courtesy of D'Hont's third strike of the game. The Purple Eagles opened the scoring 4:30 into the second half when Crump lasered a pass in to a streaking Swartwout, who immediately let go a shot that easily found the back of the net and made it 8-6. 40 seconds later, D'Hont notched her fourth of the day with a well-placed shot high to the goaltender's left. MacCheyne opened up a four-point lead by netting her 35th of the season with seven minutes gone in the second half. Monmouth responded to cut the score to 10-7, but MacCheyne restored the four-goal lead and earn her eighth hat trick of the year. Jenna Brill added her name to the stat sheet with the team's 12th goal of the day with 17 minutes left in the game. Defensive Spotlight Meghan How led the Purple Eagles with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Michelle Messenger made nine saves on 20 shots in 50-plus minutes of action. Milestones Met Crump tied Megan McNerney with 128 career goals to move into a tie for third place in program history. MacCheyne became just the second Niagara player to ever record 200 career points, and is now tied with Mary Cutia for the most points ever produced by a Purple Eagle (202). Up Next The Purple Eagles are off to Michigan to take on the Wolverines on Monday, March 25. Opening draw from Ann Arbor will be at 5 p.m. Stay connected with Niagara Women's Lacrosse on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
