The Basics • Score: #11 Penn-11, #17 Johns Hopkins-10 (OT) • Records: JHU (2-1) • UP (2-0) • Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field • The Short Story: Erin Barry scored a free position goal with 3:59 to play in the first overtime to lift 11th-ranked Penn to an 11-10 win over host and 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon. How it Happened • Hopkins jumped out to a 3-1 lead less than six minutes into the game with goals from redshirt senior Ellie McNulty, senior Miranda Ibello and junior Maggie Schneidereith. McNulty opened the scoring just 79 seconds in, scoring off a shot inside the right post off the alley-dodge. Gabby Rosenzweig answered with a goal from in-tight at the 27:21-mark to knot the score at 1-1. Ibello put the Blue Jays back on top with a shot over the shoulder of Mikaila Cheeseman at 25:38. Just 75 seconds later, the lead was two as Ibello slotted a pass to Schneidereith, who scored from the doorstep. • The Quakers answered with a 4-1 spurt, including a pair of free position goals, to take a 5-4 lead with 8:18 to play in the half. Junior Mackenzie Heldberg pulled the Blue Jays even with a one-timer off the Ibello feed with 4:57 to go. Junior Lexi Souder then put JHU on top with a free position goal at 3:38. The first-half scoring wasn't done however as Laura Crawford dodged the right alley and picked the inside of the left post to make it a 6-6 game at the half. • Hopkins wasted little time in retaking its two-goal lead when McNulty scored back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart to stake JHU to an 8-6 lead with 27:42 to play. Just over two minutes later, Crawford took a pass from Rosenzweig and scored from the right alley to cut the deficit in half. • Heldberg responded with a highlight reel goal at the 22:41-mark to put the Blue Jays up 9-7. Sophomore Aurora Cordingley dumped the ball to Heldberg at left goal-line extended, she took a few steps and then ripped a behind-the-back shot past Cheeseman. • Zoe Belodeau notched back-to-back goals to tie the game at nine with 12:00 minutes to play. Rosenzweig then put the Quakers on top with a lefty shot on the run at the 6:42-mark. The Blue Jays weren't going away and McNulty tied the game when she dodged the right alley and beat Cheeseman with a bouncer to the bottom left corner with 55.4 seconds to play. • Penn won the ensuing draw and had a chance late, but junior Caroline Hoeg took the ball away from Belodeau and Hopkins was able to run off all but one second and the game went to overtime. • Hopkins won the draw to open the overtime, but Penn forced a turnover and went the other way. Barry then cashed in on her free position shot to give the Quakers the win. What it Means • Hopkins falls to 6-7 all-time against Penn, including 4-4 at Homewood Field. • Sophomore Shelby Harrison notched her 100th career draw, becoming just the 11th player all-time in school history to reach the mark.
