The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-2 win over Presbyterian on Saturday in the 2019 season opener at Waldron Family Stadium. Seven different Mountaineers registered multi-goal performances in the big victory. The 20-2 win was the Mount's largest margin of victory since an 18-0 shutout against Delaware State in 2013. Kate Kinsella paced all Mount players with five points on four goals and one assist in the contest, while Carly Miller and Alayna Pagnotta each notched four points on two goals and a pair of assists. Jordan Groover scored three goals in her collegiate debut, and Zoe Hurlburt joined her with three points on two goals and one assist. Beanie Colson and Jordan Butler were the other Mountaineers with multi-goal games, netting two goals apiece. Jillian Petito, who led the nation in save percentage last season, collected the victory in goal for the Mountaineers, posting a scoreless first half while stopping the only shot she faced. Rookie Amber Ryan made two saves in 21:51 of action in the second half, and Caroline Wilcox finished out the final 8:09 of action in goal. The Mount held a 34-6 shot advantage overall in the contest, including a 23-1 margin in the opening half. The Mountaineers won 20 of 23 draw controls, led by a game-high seven draws by Groover. Miller got the Mount's offense going with the first two goals of the game early on. Groover notched the first goal of her career at the 20:30 mark, before Hurlburt and Kinsella netted two goals apiece in the ensuing four minutes of action to make it a 7-0 advantage. The Mountaineers added six more goals in the final 15-plus minutes of action in the first half, including two apiece by Colson and Butler. The big first half gave the Mount a commanding 13-0 lead at the intermission. Three straight goals by the Mount from Groover, Pagnotta and Taylor Carhart extended the lead to 16-0 at the 22:24 mark of the second stanza. Presbyterian finally got on the board with 18:05 left on Natalie Barnett's tally, but the Mount was able to ease its way to the 20-2 victory to start the season on a high note. Mount St. Mary's heads to UMBC for its first road game of the year on February 20 at 5 p.m.
