Sarah Marshall scored a pair of her game-high five goals in the final two minutes of the game, but Wofford was able to win the final draw control and run out the clock to earn a 14-13 win over the Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Scoring the Game Kelly Hyman scored her first goal of the year two minutes into the game to give PC a 1-0 lead. Both teams would trade goals until PC’s Marshall scored her first of the day with 13:05 left in the half to give PC a 5-3 lead. The Terriers closed the first half on a 4-0 run, including a goal from Ally Furnari that came with a man-up advantage following a PC yellow card, to take a 7-5 lead into the break. Marshall struck just 20 seconds into the second half to notch her second of the game to make it 7-6, and the sophomore scored again at 24:08 to tie the game at 8-8. Wofford used a 5-1 run over the next eight minutes, with three goals going to Furnari, to build to a 13-9 lead with just over 16 minutes to play. The Blue Hose replied with back-to-back goals from Hyman and Natalie Barnett to cut the lead to just two, 13-11, with 12:30 remaining. Marshall scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game to the lead to just one with 1:08 remaining. However, Wofford’s Elisabeth Ralph secured the draw control and enabled the visitors to run out the clock for a 14-13 win. For the Record Presbyterian College falls to 0-3 this season, while Wofford improves to 1-0. The Terriers’ Kelsey Thompson (1-0) logged seven saves in the win, while PC’s Kayla Koch (0-3) recorded nine saves in the loss. Notables Sarah Marshall’s five goals were the most for a PC player since Kelly Hyman achieved the feat last season against Gardner-Webb. It also marked a collegiate-best in goals and points for the sophomore. Natalie Barnett’s seven points (three goals, four assists) marked career-highs in points and assists. Kelly Hyman’s six points (three goals, three assists) and three assists were a collegiate-best. By the Numbers Wofford outshot PC, 34-24, and won the turnover battle, 19-26, while also holding a slight edge in draw controls, 16-13, and groundballs, 24-19. The Terriers also made more of their free attempts, converting 4-of-9 while PC converted just 2-of-8. Up Next Presbyterian College has a short trip to Furman on Wednesday, February 20, for a 6:00 pm start in Greenville, S.C.
