BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior Bianca Santucci led the LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team's scoring spree Friday afternoon. Santucci had a game-high six goals to help pace the Blackbirds to an 18-7 victory over visiting Presbyterian on LIU Field. Sophomore Amanda Masullo had five goals and three assists along with six draw controls, while Rachel Masullo added four goals, and had seven draw controls and two ground balls. Bridget Neiley, Adriana Santucci and Elise Person all scored for LIU in the win as well. The Blackbirds would jump out to an early lead, when Amanda Massullo scored the first goal just three minutes into the game. Presbyterian would even it up just 20 seconds later, and the two teams were tied for a few minutes. Rachel Masullo would give LIU back the lead three minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal to make it 2-1 Blackbirds. A few minutes later, Santucci would score off a pass from Neiley, and on the next draw control, Amanda Masullo won the draw and ran it down the field and scored a goal, putting LIU on top, 4-1. Presbyterian would call a timeout, but the Blackbirds kept the pressure on. Less than a minute later, freshman Adriana Santucci found sister Bianca Santucci in front of the net, and she'd score again to make it 5-1 LIU. Presbyterian would score twice more in the first half, but Santucci and both Masullos would add goals to keep LIU up, 8-3. And with 10 seconds left in the first half, sophomore Elise Person would score her first goal of the game, off a pass from Amanda Masullo to make it 9-3 at the break. In the second half, the Blue Hose would start to put the pressure on, scoring in the first five minutes, to cut into the lead slightly, but Adriana Santucci would score a minute later, followed by Amanda Masullo's next goal, which had widened the lead up to 11-4. From there, every time Presbyterian scored, LIU answered to squelch any comeback momentum. Person would find Masullo with 17 minutes left to make it 12-5, but it was Santucci who would widen the gulf for good. The junior would score back to back goals in less than 30 seconds to give the Blackbirds a 14-5 lead. Presbyterian continued to counter, eventually closing the lead to 15-7, but Rachel Masullo, Bridget Neiley and Bianca Santucci would add three more goals in the final six minutes of the game to cement the win for LIU, 18-7. Sophomore Sam Kidd had the win in net, making five saves for LIU. Amanda Masullo finished the game with five goals and three assists, while Bianca Santucci had six goals and an assist. Rachel Masullo had a team high seven draw controls to go with her four goals, while Bridget Neiley had two assits and a goal for the Blackbirds. Freshman Isabelle Peng had three caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls on defense, while senior Carlie Robinson had four ground balls and freshman Courtney Connelly had three ground balls and a caused turnover. Up next, the Blackbirds have a break before hosting Lafayette on LIU Field, Tuesday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
