CLINTON, S.C. – The Longwood Lancers pulled away in the second half with nine unanswered goals to spoil Senior Day for the Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team, as the Lancers picked up a 22-9 victory on Saturday at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Longwood was led by Kaitlin Luccarelli’s nine points (8G-1A) and Emma Johnson’s seven goals. Senior Natalie Barnett led the Blue Hose with seven points (4G-3A). Scoring the Game Longwood struck first with a goal from Emma Johnson 28 seconds into the game and then again one minute later as Nicole Fordyce made it 2-0. Barnett cut the deficit to one with an unassisted goal at 25:04 and then again almost ten minutes later at 16:32. Madison Berg tied the game at 3-3 with her first of the day with 13:06 left in the half. The Lancers used a 4-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 7-3 lead and would hold at least a three-goal lead for the remainder of the game. Barnett scored her third and fourth goals of the game before halftime off assists from Sarah Marshall. Sophie Krist also scored her third of the year with an assist from Barnett. At the break, Longwood was leading 10-6. Marshall scored her team-leading 30th goal of the season at 28:50 of the second half and cut the deficit to three, 10-7. Longwood scored the next three goals before Berg scored her 11th of the season, assisted by Marshall, with 21:40 remaining. Megan Dreyer then scored a beautiful goal among traffic at 20:43, assisted by Barnett, to make it a four-goal game again at 13-9. It was all Longwood from there though, as the Lancers scored nine unanswered to win 22-9. For the Record Presbyterian College ends the year with an overall record of 1-16 (0-6 Big South), while Longwood improves to 8-8 (5-1 Big South) and is one of four teams to advance to the Big South Tournament. Stats of the Game Longwood saw large advantages in shots, 38-14, shots on goal, 29-14, and draw controls, 23-9. The Lancers saw a slight edge in groundballs, 12-10, and caused turnovers were tied 6-6. Notables Senior Natalie Barnett tied her collegiate-best with seven points on the day courtesy a collegiate-best four goals and three assists. Sophomore Sarah Marshall tied her collegiate-best with three assists. She also scored one goal to keep her streaks alive at 10 consecutive games with a goal and 15 consecutive with at least one point. She ends the season as the team’s leader in goals (30) and assists (14). Sophomore Kara DiClemente led the team and tied her collegiate-best with three caused turnovers. Senior Megan Dreyer recorded a team-high three draw controls to reach 70 for her career. Freshman Madison Berg recorded her fourth multi-goal game of the season and ends the season scoring in three straight games.
