After nearly two weeks of non-action due to COVID protocols, Capital University Men's Lacrosse made the most of its return to the field with a 14-5 win over Marietta College on Wednesday night. The Crusaders, led by Nathan Mork, improved to 6-1 overall with its win on the road. Capital wasted no time in getting the bus back in motion after scoring three goals in the opening 1:31 of play behind scores by Dylan Comella, Jack Scharner and Nathan Mork. While Marietta's Chase Franklin broke up the run, Capital then burst out for six unanswered goals than spanned from the middle of the first quarter through the top of the third. All six goals were scored by a different Capital player with Mork and Comella tallying their second goals of the evening. With an 8-1 lead at halftime, Capital's Nathan Montgomery scored his fourth goal of the season to cap off the Crusaders' goal run. Cap responded to a goal by Marietta's Kyle Fleshman with a trio of scores, including Mork's third of the night while on the man-up. Lake Harris not only had a solid day on the 'X' but also posted a goal of his own toward the end of the third quarter. Harris went 12-for-22 on faceoffs to aid in the Crusaders' offensive success. While the offense rolled, senior goalie Ben Houser continued his strong play between the pipes. Houser made eight saves and allowed just four goals in 53:33 of play. Sam McInturf entered the contest to close out the final six minutes and change, making one save. Their counterpart, Dane Barker, made 19 saves despite Capital's 14 total goals. Junior Nathan Mork (Granville, Ohio/Granville) led the Crusaders with a game-high four goals, the final one coming with 3:22 remaining in the contest to make for a 14-5 final. He also scooped up two ground balls. Defensemen Doc Crimmel and Jack Conley each tallied six ground balls and combined for two caused turnovers. Capital (5-1, 2-1 OAC) will now prepare for its rivalry contest against Otterbein University, which will be played on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Crusaders and Cardinals will do battle at Memorial Stadium in Westerville.
