Hempstead, NY - Junior Alyssa Parrella had six goals and sophomore Katie Whelan added three goals and an assist to lead the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team to its fourth straight victory, a 17-7 defeat of Quinnipiac, on Tuesday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. Hofstra improved to 4-1 with the win, while Quinnipiac falls to 2-3 with the loss. The win streak is the Pride's longest since a four-game streak from March 18-April 1, 2017. The Pride dug themselves an early hole in the contest as Allison Kuhn scored twice in the first four minutes to help Quinnipiac jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Junior Darcie Smith would get Hofstra on the board with a free-position goal at the 21:04 mark and a 3-0 spurt later in the half would eventually knot the score at four. Parrella scored twice during the run that evened the score with 14:34 left on the first half clock. Quinnipiac retook a 5-4 lead before junior Mary Kate Gerety kick-started another 3-0 Hofstra run that pushed the lead to 7-5 in favor of the Pride. Quinnipiac scored two of the final three goals in the half to cut the Hofstra lead to one at the intermission. Clinging to a one-goal lead, the second half would be all Hofstra as Gerety scored her second of the game at the 23:14 mark to start a spectacular second half that saw Hofstra outscore the Bobcats, 9-0, in the final 30 minutes. Whelan scored three times in the second stanza, with Parrella also tallying a trio of goals in the half. Hofstra dominated in every aspect of the game in the second half as they won eight of nine draw controls contested, had nine of the 14 ground balls and outshot the visitors, 21-9, after intermission. Gerety posted two goals and an assist for Hofstra, while junior Alexa Mattera added one goal, two assists and five draw controls. Darcie Smith finished with four draw controls, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and two goals. Freshman Anna Kaufmann had six draw controls to lead the Pride. Freshman Jess Smith posted 13 saves for the Pride. Kuhn led Quinnipiac with five points on four goals and one assist, while Megan Szawlowski added two goals and one assist. Maddie Deegan had four draw controls and two ground balls for the Bobcats. Hofstra returns to action on Saturday when it hosts #2 Maryland at 12 p.m. NOTES - Hofstra improved to 7-0 all-time against Quinnipiac. - Parrella's six goals give her 128 in her career to move into fifth place all-time.
