RADFORD, Va. – Stifling defense from Mount St. Mary's was too much to overcome as the Radford women's lacrosse team fell, 13-5, at Cupp Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders hung right with The Mount throughout the first half, beginning with an exchange of goals that tied the game at 1-1 with 17:33 to go. When the visitors scored back-to-back goals to go up 3-1, Radford responded with back-to-back goals of their own. It wasn't until the final two minutes in the half that MSM gained its momentum with a pair of goals that put them in front 5-3 heading into halftime. Radford kept the pressure on for the first seven minutes of the second half, but once Mount St. Mary's scored with 22:57 left in regulation, the flood gates opened. They outscored the Highlanders 8-2 in the second half to earn the win. Junior attacker Lindsey Carroll led the offense with two goals on four shots. Senior attacker Adrian Rius, senior midfielder Juliette Ruland and sophomore attacker Jennifer Shield added one goal apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Bowman made her first career start and played extremely hard, tallying nine saves while staying between the pipes for all 60 minutes. She posted a .409 save percentage and now has 21 saves in four career games. As a team, Radford went 19-for-22 on clear chances and put 13-of-17 shots on goal. The Mount made 22 turnovers, but earned a 28-to-20 advantage in ground balls. Zoe Hurlburt scored a game-high four goals and three other Mount St. Mary's scored multiple goals as well. Jillian Petito made eight saves at goalie. STAT CHECK Emily Kowalik was excellent in the midfield, leading the Highlanders in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (4) Adrian Rius was tops in draw control wins with four of those as well Katie Bendrick continued her strong freshman season with three caused turnovers and two ground balls AROUND THE BIG SOUTH William & Mary 13, Longwood 5 Florida 16, High Point 15 UP NEXT The Highlanders get to stay home in Radford for a second straight home game. They'll welcome La Salle to Cupp Stadium for another Noon matchup on Tuesday, March 12. Admission for all home games is free.
