The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks, 17-4, Thursday night to begin Atlantic 10 play. The game, originally scheduled for Friday at 2:00 pm, was moved up to Thursday due to impending inclement weather. The Hawks (5-4, 1-0 A-10) took early immediately, scoring just 30 seconds in, but despite the early goal it remained a relatively defensive game. Saint Joseph's scored only three goals over the first 15 minutes to take a 3-0 lead. But the visitors turned it on at the 14-minute mark, scoring six times to take a 9-0 lead into half. The Hawks drove their lead up to 12-0 before the Bonnies got on the board with 17:42 left in the second half. Destinee Johnson scored her 13th goal of the season for Bona's first tally and added number 14 just two minutes later to add to her team-leading 28 points. She was assisted by Ashley Easterday on the first goal, her third of the season and 14th point, and Rebecca Howe on the second. It was the first career assist for the freshman, Howe. Easterday added to the Bonnies total six minutes later, scoring her 12th of the season on the free position. The Bonnies final goal of the evening came from senior Olivia MacDonald off the assist from Howe, her second of the game. Saint Joseph's dominated the game in terms of shots, 29-12, and had a firm advantage in draw controls, 15-7. The Bonnies (1-8, 0-1) were able to cause eight turnovers, and goalie Savannah Clarke stood strong in the face of an onslaught of Hawks shots, tallying nine saves. St. Bonaventure is back in action this Sunday when they pay a visit to Richmond for their first road conference game of 2019. The Spiders are 7-1 and their only loss of the season came against No. 12 Virginia.
