EASTON, Pa. – Kevin Lindley scored six goals and had an assist on Saturday, while two other Loyola University Maryland players registered their first collegiate points, as the Greyhounds beat host Lafayette College, 14-4, to start Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium. Liam Bateman logged his first two goals as a Greyhounds player, and Matt Heuston also tallied his first in the Green and Grey. Aidan Olmstead added two goals and three assists, Peter Swindell scored twice, Adam Poitras had three assists, Joey Kamish posted two helpers and Jack Raba scored a goal. Bailey Savio continued his strong play on the faceoff 'X,' winning 11 of the 15 draws he took while picking up eight ground balls. Eric Pacheco went 4 of 4 on faceoffs, as well. Three goalies – Sam Shafer, Colton Teitelbaum and Joe Tabor – played for the 12th-ranked Greyhounds (4-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League)) on Saturday. Shafer made six saves and allowed only three goals in more than three quarters of action, while Joe Tabor made his collegiate debut and had a save on the only shot he faced. Ryan McNulty had eight ground balls and four caused turnovers as Loyola had 13 caused turnovers, three days after it posted 15 in a Wednesday night win over Towson University. Loyola's defense held Lafayette scoreless for a stretch of 37 minutes, 30 seconds that spanned three quarters at one point in the game. Olmstead got the scoring started just over a minute into the game as he took an Adam Poitras pass and hit a low-angle shot from the right wing. Lafayette (0-5, 0-1), however, evened the game just over a minute later on an Andrew Robbins tally. Bateman used a Lindley feed to score his first collegiate goal at 11:42, one-timing a cross-crease pass after Lindley dodged from behind and rolled back from the cage. That started a 4-0 run that gave Loyola a 5-1 cushion at the end of the first quarter. During the 4-0 stretch, all four of the Greyhounds goals were assisted. Poitras again fed Olmsted for a goal at 8:08, and then Joey Kamish and Bateman executed a two-man game below goal-line where Bateman finished with his second of the day. With 59 seconds left in the quarter, Kamish had his second assist on Lindley's first of the day. The Leopards got back within two, 5-3, by scoring the first two of the second quarter, but Lindley had an unassisted goal, taking his defender form 'X' to get topside and rollback to his right-hand and score with 6:39 on the second-quarter clock. Less than a minute later, Heuston picked up a ground ball in traffic near midfield and went down the left alley to score his first as a Greyhound. Lindley capped the run of three goals in one-minute, 37 seconds when he caught an Olmstead pass and scored at 5:02, sending the teams to the locker room at halftime with Loyola in front, 8-3. The third quarter was nearly devoid of scoring as Lindley tallied the frame's only goal, a man-up strike from the inside of the defense from an Olmstead assist. Loyola then tacked on four goals in less than five minutes to start the fourth quarter. Swindell started the action on extra-man as he picked up a ground ball and tallied his first of the day on the run from the left side at 13:06. Lindley then added another goal off an Olmstead assist at 12:11 to push the lead to 11-3. Swindell scored his second off Poitras' third assist with 11:01 to go in regulation, and Lindley made it a 10-goal lead with 10:21 left, scoring his sixth of the day. Jack Raba added his second goal in as many games, tallying an unassisted goal off a failed Lafayette clear with 6:55 left, and the Leopards broke a 37-minute, 30-second scoreless stretch with a Cole Dutton goal at 3:08 in the fourth. In addition to McNulty's four caused turnovers – he had seven this week after posting three against Towson – Matt Higgins had two for the Greyhounds. Loyola steps out of Patriot League play for its next game. It will host Duke University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Ridley Athletic Complex.
