COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team added another to the win column on Sunday afternoon at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, downing San Diego State, 16-10. Senior Baley Parrott tallied four goals for Ohio State, with her final goal of the game registering as the 100th goal of her career. The Buckeyes are now 7-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference games. San Diego State falls to 8-3 overall. THE SHORT STORY While the game began as a back and forth battle, the Buckeyes took control late in the second half with a four-goal lead over the Aztecs at half. San Diego State went back to the drawing board and made it a tight game with half of the second frame remaining as the Bucks led by just one goal. Junior goalkeeper Jill Rizzo made several spectacular saves for Ohio State, and the offense went on a five-goal frenzy to run away from the Aztecs in the end. QUOTABLE Ohio State head coach Alexis Venechanos: “We stuck to the game plan and continued to be aggressive when we needed to be. The effort was strong. We saw some new things and we had some adversity with some cards early on in the game, but I felt like we weathered that storm. We got into halftime with the lead and built the momentum, not in big chunks but we kept chipping away, got a lead and in the end had enough in us to make that spread a little bit bigger.” Ohio State senior midfielder Baley Parrott: “It’s been such a great experience. I’ve gotten to play with some of the greatest players to ever come out of Ohio State and I’ve gotten to look up to some of the best players in NCAA history. That’s what’s been a motivating factor. You play hard for the people that come before you, and play hard for the ones that are coming after you.” MOMENTS THAT MATTERED • Junior McKayla Conti wasted no time, putting the Buckeyes ahead by a goal just 30 second into the game. • The Aztecs responded with an equalizer at 26:07, but Ohio State scored three consecutive goals to jump out to a 4-1 lead with 3:26 left in the half. • San Diego State added two goals from Taylor Sullivan, but the Buckeyes notched three more goals to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. • Quick offense continued to open the second, with sophomore Sophie Baez posting her first goal of the game at 29:38. • While junior Liza Hernandez found the back of net shortly after, the Aztecs went on a three-goal scoring run to bring the score to 9-7. • Junior Sage Darling slowed the SDSU momentum with a goal at 18:43, but the Aztecs got right back into it with a pair of goals to cut the Buckeye lead to just one at 15:10 in the second. • Ohio State went on a five-goal run sparked by Baez at 14:15, taking a 15-9 lead. • While Bailey Brown of SDSU snuck a 10th goal past junior Jill Rizzo, Parrott registered the final goal of the game at 7:31, marking the 100th of her career. THIS AND THAT • Parrott scored a team-high four goals to end the game at the 100-goal mark in her Buckeye career. She has scored goals in 10 games this season, including nine multiple point performances. Her 32 goals this season leads the team. • Parrott also led the team with seven draw controls, notching the 100th draw control of her career. • Sophie Baez totaled four goals for her seventh multi-point game and has scored is six consecutive games. • Liza Hernandez added a pair of goals and assists and has scored multiple points in all but one game this season. • Sara Dickinson posted two goals and an assist. Dickinson has scored a point in all but one game for the Buckeyes this season, and has eight multi-point efforts so far. • Sage Darling tied her season-high with two goals, ending the weekend with three overall. • Caroline Mackrides and Lindsey Epstein both added three caused turnovers.
