Chatham Men's Lacrosse traveled to Westminster College this evening for their third non-conference game of the season. Despite a comeback to take the lead, the Cougars ultimately fell by one goal in the fourth quarter. Westminster started off the game on an offensive roll, scoring three goals within three minutes. It would take until the 11-minute mark for the Cougars to get on the board, but senior Daniel Napier capitalized on a scoring opportunity to get Chatham going. Despite a low-scoring first quarter, the second quarter was an offensive frenzy for both teams. Senior Tyler Hayes led the charge for Chatham, scoring three goals along with one from junior Michael Porreca. With the Cougars closing the scoring gap, the momentum was theirs to keep heading into the third. Hayes was the first to score in the quarter, followed by a man-up goal from junior captain Nicholas Guaglione and the equalizer scored by Dillon Dugan. With the score tied at eight, the Cougars took the lead for the first time all game thanks to first-year Riley Lewis, who netted his first collegiate goal. Guaglione would strike again once more before the end of the quarter, taking the Cougars into the final 15 with a one-goal lead. The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle, beginning with a tying goal from Westminster. Tyler Hayes and Andrew Mattingly scored with a Titan goal between them before the Titans went ahead by two. Nicholas Guaglione would tie the Cougars back up at 13 before Westminster's Hamish Mathwin netted two more. Guaglione's final goal with just 11 seconds left did not leave the Cougars with enough time to catch up, and the game ended with a score of 15-14 in favor of Westminster. Tyler Hayes finished with a game-high five goals, followed by Guaglione with four. Seniors Ben Neal and Jacob Sivley each won a game-high seven face-offs, and Neal also led the Cougars in caused turnovers with five. Senior defender Jerad Wilson had nine ground balls on the day. Junior goalkeeper Shane Gaglione made a season-high 11 saves. The Cougars look to bounce back on Saturday, March 20th as they host Grove City in their season-opener at UPMC Graham Field.
