"We need to do a better job of taking care of the ball when we have it, especially when we are facing a top draw like Marist. I am proud of how our girls competed and I am eager to get back to work this week." HOW IT HAPPENED The Red Foxes built an early 3-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Kelly George (5 goals), but the Catamounts countered with six unanswered scores and built a 6-3 advantage with 11 minutes left in the half. Marist's Jessica Lasaponara (1 goal) ended the run at the 5:36 mark but UVM's Jenny Caoili and Jenna Janes netted goals in the final 3:14 as the Cats took an 8-4 lead into the break. The Red Foxes chipped away at the deficit by scoring four of the first five goals of the period and trailed 9-8 less than 10 minutes into the second half. Vermont answered the call once again and netted four straight including a pair from Caoili. Marist stormed back with six goals in a 10-minute stretch and Hailey Wagner found the equalizer with 3:15 left in regulation. In the final minute of the second half, the Catamounts held the ball for the last shot but could not generate a shot on goal. In the extra session, the Red Foxes won the draw control and Samantha Mehalick cashed in the free-position chance for the game-winner. GAME NOTES Janes and Elise Koehl led the way for the Green and Gold with four goals apiece. Janes was also credited with an assist and picked up two ground balls. Caoili recorded her second hat trick of the young season and converted 1-of-2 free position shots. Dani Paterno logged her first career point with a goal in the first half. Alex Vignona handed out two assists and tallied three ground balls. Goalie Mady Kuras made 11 saves in net for the Cats.
