Junior attacker Sorana Larson netted a game-high four goals while fellow third-year Amanda Outcalt posted a hat trick and four assists for seven total points, leading UC Davis to a 13-7 win over Bucknell in women's collegiate lacrosse action at San Diego State's Aztec Lacrosse Field Sunday. The Aggies, playing the first of two neutral-site games against Patriot League-member teams, improves to 5-4 overall. The Bison slip to 1-5 overall. Senior midfielder Taylor Cuenin added two goals, while Shannon Cross, Mar Alvear, Kate Graham and Anna Hofgard each tallied one. Graham also had UC Davis' two remaining assists in the contest. Senior Grace Richards and freshman Taylor Mathieson shared the goalkeeping duties, with the latter stepping in during the 23rd minute then proceeding to post five saves with just one goal allowed the rest of the way. UC Davis never trailed in the contest, with Outcalt assisting Larson for the game's first goal in the third minute, then hitting one of her own some 78 seconds later for a 2-0 start. Bucknell pulled to within a one-goal deficit on four occasions, including a 7-6 margin with 7:50 left in the first half. Mathieson took over the goaltending chores at that moment, then held the Bison scoreless until halftime, keeping the scoreboard at 7-6 in the Aggies' favor. Neither team found the back of the net for almost 14 minutes after halftime, with junior defender Addie Dearden causing two turnovers and Mathieson notching back-to-back saves in that span. Cross scored her lone goal on an eight-meter chance with 16:12 left in the half, igniting a quick 3-0 outburst for UC Davis. Bucknell only managed one goal in the second half – an unassisted strike in the 49th minute – and even took just seven attempts on the attacking end during the period. The Aggies finished with a second 3-0 run to pull away with the win, an outburst that included a spectacular over-the-shoulder shot from Larson with 3:50 left. As a team, the Aggies outdrew the Bison by a 34-20 advantage, and won 15 of the game's 22 draws. Junior Maddie Myers controlled seven such draws with Graham claiming another four. Deaden and Cuenin each led UC Davis with three caused turnovers, while Graham paced her team in ground balls with five. Freshman Julia Bradbury led Bucknell offensively with two goals, while defender Callie Dewitt recorded game highs of four steals and eight ground balls. The Aggies remain in San Diego to face Lehigh in another neutral-site game at Aztec Lacrosse Field on Tuesday. Game time is 1 p.m.
