The Basics • Score: #25 High Point-13, #14 Johns Hopkins-10 • Records: JHU (6-2) • HPU (4-3) • Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field • The Short Story: Visiting High Point used a four-goal run, over a span of 20 minutes, to take the lead and didn't relinquish it in a 13-10 win over the 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team Wednesday night at Homewood Field. How it Happened • Hopkins jumped on top with a pair of nearly identical goals from junior Maggie Schneidereith. High Point answered with three straight goals to pull ahead, 3-2, with 19:29 to go in the half. • Sophomores Aurora Cordingley and Shelby Harrison ended the run with back-to-back free position goals just 40 seconds apart to grab the lead back for the Blue Jays. That lead was short-lived however as three consecutive free position goals, including a pair from Mena Loescher, put the Panthers up 6-4 at the half. • Abby Hormes capped that four-goal run just 3:26 into the second when she beat senior Haley Crosson with a high shot to stake High Point to a 7-4 lead. Redshirt senior Ellie McNulty scored off the dodge less than two minutes later and Schneidereith followed with her third of the night to pull Hopkins back within one with 23:40 to play. • Ashley Britton and Loescher answered with goals just 80 seconds apart and just like that the lead was back to three. Schneidereith cut the deficit to two when she picked up a ground ball and blew a sidearm shot past Sarah Zeto at the 19:30-mark. Once again the Panthers answered with a pair of quick goals, this time just 49 seconds apart, as they pushed their lead to 11-7 with 18:03 to go. • McNulty got one back for the Blue Jays just 33 seconds later, but a Kaely Kyle goal with 10:07 to play made it a four-goal game once again. Hopkins wasn't going away however. Junior Mackenzie Heldberg drew a triple team and then slipped a pass to senior Miranda Ibello, who scored from in-tight to cut the deficit to three. Cordingley then checked the ball away from Samantha Herman on the end line after a Panthers' timeout and Schneidereith scored off the restart to make it a two-goal game with 5:07 to play. JHU could get no closer in the final five minutes and High Point would tack on an empty net goal to seal the win. What it Means • Tonight's game was the first-ever meeting between the Blue Jays and the Panthers. • Schneidereith notched her sixth hat trick of the season and has 17 goals in her last four games. Heldberg saw her 17-game goal-scoring streak snapped, but extend her point streak to 23 games with three assists.
