WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross used an explosive second half to down the Bucknell women's lacrosse team, 19-13, on Saturday at Kuzniewski Field. While the Bison (4-9, 2-3 Patriot League) twice drew within two goals in the final 11 minutes of regulation, the Crusaders (4-8, 2-3 Patriot League) closed the game on a 4-0 run to emerge victorious. Holy Cross built its initial cushion by netting three unanswered goals between the second half's 18:31 and 16:13 marks; that run turned an 11-11 tie into a 14-11 Crusader advantage, which proved too much for Bucknell to overcome. At the end of an entertaining, back-and-forth first half, the Bison and Crusaders were locked in a 7-7 tie. During that half, the teams were tied five different times, with each only being able to build a two-goal separation once. After Holy Cross netted three of the second half's first four goals to build a 10-8 advantage, Julia Bradbury struck twice in less than two minutes to make it a 10-10 game with 21:59 left to play. The Crusaders and Bison then traded goals in 19 seconds to make it an 11-11 game with 19:30 on the clock. From that point on, Holy Cross took control of the contest, scoring eight of the next 10 goals. The Crusaders notably prevented Bucknell from capitalizing on a man advantage with roughly eight minutes left to play; at that point, their lead was at 15-13, and Sydney Brant's heads-up play to cause the Bison to turn over the ball helped spark their game-ending run. Jolie Creo (5g-1a), Maggie Moriarty (1g-4a) and Bryn Carroll (3g-1a) paced a potent Holy Cross attack. For the Bison, Morgan Steinhacker and Kali Peeples each netted a hat trick while Callie DeWitt caused a game-best four turnovers. DeWitt's four caused turnovers gave her 31 on the season, good for fifth in Bucknell's history. She now has 70 in her career, giving her sole possession of seventh in the Bison annals; she is only the seventh Bison to log at least 70 career caused turnovers. Juliana Kluber outdueled Jamisen DeWitt, finishing with 15 saves to the Bison senior's 11. The Crusaders led in shots (45-33) and shots on goal (30-28). Most notably, they held a sizable 26-7 advantage in draw controls, bolstered by Keely Connors setting a school record with 16. Bucknell scooped up more ground balls, at 23-20. The Bison next return to Graham Field for a game against Boston University on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
