Through heavy rainfall, the California women's lacrosse team had its four-game winning streak snapped by No. 23 Colorado Sunday afternoon from California Memorial Stadium. The Buffaloes defeated the Golden Bears, 17-11. Caroline Corzel tied her career best with five goals to lead the offensive attack for the Bears, while Lizabanks Campagna recorded a personal-best 11 draw controls. She also secured three ground balls and caused a turnover. Campagna's efforts helped Cal dominate the draw control battle, 22-7. "The draw team did a phenomenal job today," head coach Brooke Eubanks said. "Our draw takers were really able to put it into a space where our players were able to get to it. Lizabanks got half of our draws herself. It's obviously a very tactical skill, but it also takes a lot of heart, and she definitely showed that today. "Lizabanks had the heart of a lion today. She was all over the place. She was playing fantastic defense, locking down the 1-v-1's, but her draws gave us the spark that we needed throughout the day. I think she helped the offense get more opportunities, which led to some more goals for us towards the end of the game. She was our shining star for today." Cal (4-5, 1-1) jumped out early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first moments of the contest. The Bears also secured the first four draw controls of the game, maintaining possession early on. Colorado clamped down after the initial minutes, though, and outscored Cal, 9-2, for the rest of the half. Corzel and Kirsten Swanson each scored twice in the first half. Nikki Zaccaro found Corzel streaking in front of the goal in the first 30 seconds of the second half to put the Bears on the board first after the break. It was Zaccaro's second assist of the day. The Buffaloes took control of the game for good after that, scoring the next six goals, including two while with a man-advantage. Later in the half, Cameron Gordon found the back of the net twice to give herself two tallies on the day. Jenny Wilkens made eight saves for the 42nd time in her career in 60 games. Cal hosts No. 15 Stanford next Saturday in Berkeley at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
