FARMVILLE, N.C. – Despite an edge in the draw circle, the ECU women's lacrosse team could not convert the possession to goals and fell to Longwood 15-8 on Saturday afternoon. ECU (5-6) drops its fifth straight game. Longwood (3-7) snaps a four-game losing streak. In the early going, the two teams were evenly matches. Megan Pallozzi opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, but Longwood responded with a pair of goals. Pallozzi scored again at 24:55 off a pass from Emma Bowman to tie the game at 2-2. From there, Longwood grabbed control of the game. The Lancers scored two straight goals, a run that was only stopped by a man-up goal from Megan Tryniski. After Tryniski's goal, Longwood held ECU scoreless for over 10 straight minutes while the Lancers rattled off four straight goals. The run finally came to an end when Camryn Pennypacker scored an unassisted goal. The two teams each added one more goal before the end of the half, with Pennypacker scoring once more for ECU. That made it 10-5 in favor of Longwood at the break. Any hope for an ECU comeback was severely diminished when the Lancers opened the second half on a 4-0 scoring run while the Pirates did not score for 15 minutes. ECU's first goal of the final 30 minutes came when Ally Stanton scored with 13:40 remiaining. Stanton's goal did set off a slight spark though. Brittany Borchers followed with a goal 31 seconds later and then Pennypacker completed her hat trick when she scored with 12:03 remaining. At that point, ECU trailed 14-8, but had seemingly all of the momentum. Unfortunately, ECU could not find the back of the net for the rest of the game. Longwood's offense managed only one more goal, but that was enough for the Lancers to close out the 15-8 win. Both teams put 17 shots on goal while Longwood had 15 turnovers to 13 for ECU. The Pirates held a 14-10 advantage in the draw circle, but Longwood had a 7-3 edge in free position shots. Pennypacker and Pallozzi were the only Pirates with multiple points on the day. Nicole LeGar racked up 10 draw controls and caused three turnovers. Christina White made two saves in just over 45 minutes of action for ECU while Savvy Smith played the final 14:28. For Longwood, Danielle Burke had nine stops for the Lancers. Kaitlin Luccarelli finished with eight points (four goals, four assists) and Taylor Blenckstone had seven points (five goals, two assists). ECU will be back home next Sunday for its inaugural American Athletic Conference game. The Pirates will host Vanderbilt Sunday afternoon inside Johnson Stadium.
