In the longest game in program history, the ECU women's lacrosse team lost an 11-10 triple overtime game to Campbell on Sunday afternoon in Johnson Stadium. "Really proud of the effort we put on the field today, especially in the second half and in the overtime periods," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore. "The heart and hustle to fight and finish was just tremendous. At no point were we up in the game, but we played with a ton on determination and grit which was uplifting to see. The fact that we were able to limit our turnovers in the second half really was a growing point that we were striving for as a team so I was happy to see that happen." ECU (5-5) went to overtime for just the second program history and lost in the extra periods for the first time. Campbell (3-4) won for the third time in four games. The Pirates trailed for nearly the entire game, but always kept Campbell within striking distance. It was all Campbell in the early going though. The Camels scored five of the game's six goals, as Melissa Placek scored the first two goals for Campbell. Emma Bowman scored for ECU to make it 2-1, but Campbell score the next three goals, two from Anna Pazulski. Trailing 5-1, ECU began to get in gear. Sophia LoCicero scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from Nicole LeGar. After Laura Will scored Campbell's sixth goal, ECU went on a 3-0 run to end the half. Camryn Pennypacker scored an unassisted goal followed by Hannah Rzempoluch scoring off a Brittany Borchers feed. The half closed when Bowman scored her second goal of the game, this one off a pass from LeGar. The second half opened with very little offense. Two Campbell goals were the only markers for the first 15:26 of the second stanza. ECU finally got a second half goal when Rzempoluch scored with 14:34 left. After assisting that Rzempoluch goal, Aly Stanton scored a goal of her own to make it 8-7. Annie Pazulski completed a hat trick at the 11:44 mark to extend Campbell's lead. Goals from Bowman and Rzempoluch, both of which completed hat tricks as well, finally tied the game at 9-9. Campbell regained the lead at 4:02 when Pazulski scored again. But Rzempoluch answered with her career-high fourth goal off a pass from LeGar, tying the score with 1:49 to go. The final minute was frantic. First, Bowman had a free position shot saved. ECU then needed goalkeeper Christina White to make a point-blank save with 14 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. All three overtime periods started identically, with Melissa Placek winning the draw for the Camels. The first two times ECU withstood the Campbell opening possession, getting a turnover in the first overtime and a White stop in the second. ON the other end, ECU had a chance when LoCicero had a free position shot saved with a second remaining in the first overtime. Megan Pallozzi also had a chance to win the game in the second overtime, but her shot was saved. Finally, in the third overtime, the Pirates could not hold off Campbell any longer. Placek won the opening draw and then the game came to an end when Laura Will scored off a pass from Annie Pazulski. Campbell outshot ECU 32-27 and had a 14-11 advantage in the draw circle. ECU shot just 1-of-7 on free position shots while Campbell made 2-of-4. White finished with 14 saves in goal for ECU while Lexie Patton had 10 stops for Campbell. Rzempoluch led ECU with her four goals with LeGar passing out three helpers. ECU will be on the road next weekend for a final tuneup before the start of AAC play. The Pirates will take on Longwood at 1 p.m., on Saturday afternoon.
