Greenville, S.C. – Behind a ten-goal second half, Liberty downed Furman, 14-10, on Saturday afternoon inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Flames to 6-2 on the year, while the loss drops the Paladins to 2-5. Grace Pollak led the Paladins with five goals on the day, while Sophie Brennan matched her with five points (two goals, three assits). Hannah Demis also netted two goals on the day, while Courtney Baker made five saves and Sydney Catts won four draws. Liberty took a quick 1-0 lead just over a minute into the contest, before Grace Pollak netted her first goal of the day to tie the game at one with 27:04 remaining in the half. The Flames then went on a 3-0 run to push the lead to 4-1 with just under 20:00 left in the first. Following a Furman timeout, the Paladins closed the half on a 4-0 run, including three goals from Pollak to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. The Flames opened the second half with five-straight goals to take a 9-5 lead, before Furman cut the lead to 9-6 with 23:55 to go. The Flames scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to five at 11-6, before Furman netted back-to-back scores to cut the lead back to three with 19:15 to go. Liberty scored back-to-back goals to push the lead back to five, before Furman used a free-position shot from Sophie Brennan to cut the lead to 13-9 with 9:16 to go. Hannah Demis netted her second goal of the day for the Paladins to cut the lead to 13-10 with 8:12 to go, and both teams were held off the board for the next 6:30 until Liberty scored with 1:45 to go to take the 14-10 win. Furman is back in action on Friday, March 15, hosting Butler at 3:00 p.m. inside Paladin Stadium.
